March 2007
Welcome
to Dave Rayner (1958-1999) Memorial Day.
(1st round of the 2007 Lindenberg)
It has been eight
years since the Grizz passed away
in January, 1999 & today’s event, sponsored by Jim Small, is held
in his
memory. Dave was generally first in line
when it came to “Downers” & no doubt, he will be keeping a heavenly
eye on
the day’s activities particularly when Jim calls for a toast in his
honour.
FOUNDATION/LIFE
MEMBERS’ DAY, with 22 Lizards
and 2 visitors, produced the following

The day’s winner, Jim
Small scored 38 points with
splits of 20/18 to beat Col Lacey (21/17) on a count back.
Both players had their chance to win outright
but missed short puts on the last hole. Three
players, Mike Dodd, Chris Mooney & Ivan Tiltins were a shot away in
third
position making for one of the closest results for some time at Avalon.
Bruce Staples must
have a great opinion of our half
time catering. After scoring 10 points
on the first nine, he went berserk after his fill of morning repast
& shot
the day’s high of 24 points on the back nine.
If the previous
paragraph looks like a reprint from
last month’s FOL your memory serves you correctly.
Bruce won last month with the same score on
each nine. We think it mazing.
Our Bradman duo of
Glenn Castle & Geoff Wade
looking resplendent in their millinery gave us a fine exhibition of
guzzling
their downers. No sooner had they
rejoined the benches, they were invited to the podium once again for
participation in the “Airies Anthem”. Well
done gentlemen!
Normally a regular in
the previous event, Hart
found himself watching from the front bench.
It would seem he lost a brief wrestling match with a vacuum
cleaner
during the week during which he was given a bear hug by the suction
hose causing
rib damage of some kind. He was awarded
a “Purple Hart” by his quack & advised to take a short spell from
all
physical activities.
When it became known
that Ian Massey would be a
partner in this month’s catering effort, a highly esteemed member was
heard to
comment “that brings an end to fast food”.
His partner in conversation replied “I quite like escargot”.
Walter Hill started
our recent trip away in fine
style. On the second hole at Moss Vale
he decided to demonstrate how a Hill goes downhill the fast way. At the
end of
his five metre, face down skid he got to his feet amidst the applause
of those
around him & announced “that wasn’t very clever was it”. Nor was the way he wrung out his washed
clothes the next morning from the veranda on the first floor of his
motel room
with Ivan Tiltins enjoying a coffee on the ground floor directly below
him.
The results of our
Jamberoo trip are shown later in
the FOL & lizards are advised that Neil has booked for next year
from
Friday 7th March 2008.
