February 2007
Welcome to Foundation/Life Members Day with today’s trophies provided by Bill Epps, Bill Sheehan, Neville (Nifty) Meredith, Garry Bird & Andy Warner.
Bill Epps has not been enjoying the best of health recently but we all hope he can make it here to join the day’s festivities. Nifty, our Port Macquarie host, has also been having a few health problems. He needed a skin graft following the removal of a melanoma but reports that all is well & he will be thinking of us all on the day.

After a short break from the pay
out window, our
esteemed treasurer Michael Morgan decided that it was his turn for a
collect. Realising, in view of the
difficult
conditions a lower than normal winning score would prevail, he rattled
up 39
points for first prize and in doing so, gave the Crapper little room to
adjust
his handicap. This is the type of
devious & cunning thinking the Lizards expect from their bean
counter.
After an extended break from the pay out window, our highly esteemed
Dobber
bumbled his way around Avalon somehow scraping together 37 points to
collect
second prize in the member’s event. No
doubt the Crapper will view this fluke in the proper light.
Bruce Staples must have a great
opinion of our
half time catering. After scoring 10
points on the first nine, he went berserk after his fill of morning
repast
& shot the day’s high of 24 points on the back nine.
His combined score of 34 points gave him a
seven shot winning margin in the visitor’s trophy.
Gerry Manderson, after his long
drive to Avalon
Golf Course, managed to finish second in the visitor’s event scoring 27
points. Our history books show that on his
last six
visits to Lizards, Gerry has had a quinella finish on five occasions.
Hart got two shots back after
winning December’s
Bradman & carried on as though he was a short price favorite to
collect a
little “Castle Money” on the day. Stretch,
however had different plans & managed to beat Hart by three points. Hart still broke even on the day when Gary
Castle had a shocker. He was heard to
say rather loudly “if you play against two Castles, you are sure to
beat at
least one of them”.
In the hot & humid conditions
played in, it
was really gratifying to see the way Jim Small & the Dobber
supported the
other players on the day. From Jim’s air
conditioned golf cart, every time they encountered another lizard on
the course
they gave him a wave & a few words of encouragement to help them on
their
way. It was true Lizards sportsmanship
on display.
If you thought it was a hot day,
spare a thought
for Chris Mooney’s visitors John Kelsey & Chris Knight who, two
days
earlier were in sub-zero temperatures in the
Today is the qualifying round for the Lindenberg trophy. At last count, our most prolific winner of
the event was a toss up between the Dobber & the Editor (both
highly
esteemed). It is conducted as a match
play, knock out event planned to finish with the final in June this
year.
If you believe you will be unable
to play on all
Lizards days until June, please notify the Crapper.
