WELCOME TO DAVE RAYNER (1958 – 1999) MEMORIAL DAY.
Dave, a Lizards of 12 years,
died 16 Jan ‘99 – in Dec ‘98 he scored NTP on the 3rd, his son
Nick won the Visitor’s trophy and grandson was 3rd in visitors;
he shared an annual donorship with his father-in-law Jim Small. Jim switched SMALL-RAYNER DAY to the Memorial Day and is
today’s donor. Hats off to Jim and the Grizz – who
is rubbing shoulders with more Lizards than we have ever met, and probably
arguing with them that 64 degree wedges are better than niblicks.

NEIL WINTERTON enjoyed his
second winner’s downer in 3 months, indicating he is not distracted from his
shot making by his extra duties in the temporary absence of Capt. Handicapper
Manfred. Deciphering the member’s scorecards amid
incessant questioning whilst juggling a dozen nearest the pin and long drive
markers, to meet the meeting deadline, could cause a lesser Lizard to shoot
through for a couple of weeks, to Bikini Atoll or the south west coast of
Tasmania, to do a quiet stocktake of marbles. Well
played Neil.
JOHN O’MEARA usually goes
into 44-45 scoring frenzy during the warmer months. He
has won the Dawson Carroll Cup 3 times, but all he could muster this summer
was a commendable 41 points. In Feb ’01 he carded 43
points and came in 3rd!
ANTHONY BEALE, President
in 1993 and one of the Lizard’s better golfers in the late 90’s, moved off
with his young family to Bathurst, after handing in his final score of 38
off 9. That was 80 months ago. He
dropped in out of the blue for our February game, scored 38 off 9 and was
lucky enough to pick up 3rd prize. Well
done Anthony, wherever you are.
