WELCOME TO DAVE RAYNER (1958 – 1999) MEMORIAL DAY.

Dave, a Lizards of 12 years, died 16 Jan ‘99 – in Dec ‘98 he scored NTP on the 3rd, his son Nick won the Visitor’s trophy and grandson was 3rd in visitors; he shared an annual donorship with his father-in-law Jim Small.  Jim switched SMALL-RAYNER DAY to the Memorial Day and is today’s donor.  Hats off to Jim and the Grizz – who is rubbing shoulders with more Lizards than we have ever met, and probably arguing with them that 64 degree wedges are better than niblicks.

FOUNDATION-LIFE MEMBER’S DAY, with 20 Lizards and no visitors, produced the following results:

1st LIZARDS                                     Neil Winterton - 42 points off 15 handicap

2nd LIZARDS                                    John O’Meara - 41 points off 16 handicap

3rd LIZARDS                                     Anthony Beale - 38 points off 9 handicap

BEST SCRATCH                            Bob Paine - 29 points

2nd Lizards           Garry Bird LM - 28 points off 22 handicap

NEIL WINTERTON enjoyed his second winner’s downer in 3 months, indicating he is not distracted from his shot making by his extra duties in the temporary absence of Capt. Handicapper Manfred.  Deciphering the member’s scorecards amid incessant questioning whilst juggling a dozen nearest the pin and long drive markers, to meet the meeting deadline, could cause a lesser Lizard to shoot through for a couple of weeks, to Bikini Atoll or the south west coast of Tasmania, to do a quiet stocktake of marbles.  Well played Neil.

JOHN O’MEARA usually goes into 44-45 scoring frenzy during the warmer months.  He has won the Dawson Carroll Cup 3 times, but all he could muster this summer was a commendable 41 points.  In Feb ’01 he carded 43 points and came in 3rd!

ANTHONY BEALE, President in 1993 and one of the Lizard’s better golfers in the late 90’s, moved off with his young family to Bathurst, after handing in his final score of 38 off 9.  That was 80 months ago.  He dropped in out of the blue for our February game, scored 38 off 9 and was lucky enough to pick up 3rd prize.  Well done Anthony, wherever you are.

DAWSON CARROLL boarded his flight to Ireland last Wednesday – one day prior to St Patricks Day and 5 days before his birthday.  We look forward to his annual pilgrimage, he enhances the Yuletide festivities by way of his presence, the Christmas Carroll Cup and his wondrous donor’s trophies, he is an interesting man to talk to and obviously enjoys the Lizard way of life.  We wish him well.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Dawson, Postie, Chris Mooney and Garry Bird.  The Lizards don’t have a birthday book – it would be handy to know if there is anybody else here who was born in March.

THE HOLE IN ONE CAN is overdue and ready to transform some Lizard or Visitor into a very happy golfer.  To win it you must be on the list of having paid the entrance fee.
