February 2005
WELCOME TO FOUNDATION / LIFE MEMBERS DAY. The Lizards of today are enjoying the same
relaxed approach to golf and camaraderie as encouraged by the founder, Leon
List, licensee of the Steyne Hotel, the best part of 59 years ago.
TODAY’S LIFE MEMBER DONORS
are Bill Sheehan, Gordon Donald, Bill Epps, Garry Bird, Andrew Warner and
Neville Meredith. Nifty forwarded his trophy and sends
his best wishes to Vicki and the members.

RAFFLE In the absence of raffle tickets, Gary Castle won the scotch when his card was
drawn from the pack.
MATTHEW CASTLE put the Castles
back on the winning skyline for the first time since
PRESIDENT GARRY BIRD LM scored
24 points on the front 9, that’s six 3 pointers and three 2 pointers, and
followed on with an above average 19 pointer on the back nine – no doubt,
whilst signing his card, was revelling in the delusions of grandeur. When he fed his card into the classifier/mulcher it spat
out a degree of success - THIRD PLACE, NO DIVIDEND – THE CARD IS NOW A FISHO CLUB COASTER…
GERRY MANDERSON’S last recorded
winning score was 37 off a 20 handicap. Last month
he kicked off with 20 points on the first nine, then effervesced with 28 on
the home run – which shows he averaged more than 3 points on every hole on
the back nine! Well done Gerry, we like to see the
handicapper confronted with little enigmas of this nature every few years.
BOB PAINE, who has not recorded
a score of more than 36 points over the past 11 months, completed his round
one over the card, for a 42 pointer, and a good chance of being a winner. The average top score last year being 41. Due to an unusual heavy calibre dash for cash, Bob was
relegated to 4th past the post.
ANDREW WARNER LM Bradman
on a countback from Neil Winterton! and Jim Small having his photo in last
month’s FOL after succumbing to the Bradman baggy cap, having avoided the
occurrence for 17 years! Is global warming affecting
the top 10 Lizard golfers?
DAVE GILCHRIST returned to Avalon after a lengthy spell and was issued
with a fines tin in a vain attempt to keep him quiet during the meeting.
FINES, some were:
Chief Dobber having an air swing with his putter.
Col Lacey grinning when John O’Meara’s buggy tyre rolled down the
11th
and
laughing as Chris Mooney’s entire buggy escaped down the
steep 18th.
Jim Small doing anything to get his photo in FOL, and chipping in on the
2nd, 4th and 14th holes.
Hart boasting on the 13th “I play like a professional. The 7 wood is
my brush, the fairway my canvas. I am an artist – that’s why I
am known as pro hart”
and
creating an international incident by lending his “storm
trooper’s” uniform to Prince Harry.
