December 2004
SEASONS GREETINGS
PRESIDENT GARRY BIRD LM WISHES THE MEMBERS, VISITORS AND OUR READERS IN AUSTRALIA AND OVERSEAS
A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS!
WELCOME TO CHRISTMAS CARROLL DAY and to Dawson, today’s donor, and instigator of the coveted Dawson Carroll Trophy – which we have been striving for each December since 1988. It is every Lizard’s ambition to have his name inscribed on the prestigious piece.
JOHN O’MEARA has taken possession of the hardware in 1988 and 91. JIM SMALL, dual titleholder, won the prize in 2002 and 2003.
HATS OFF to these players, and condolence to Chris Mooney who has been runner up on three occasions in the past few years – once on a countback.
CHRISTMAS CARROLL DAY is when members and visitors “Bring a Gift” and “Receive a Gift”. If you have arrived in the Shed with nothing more in your Christmas stocking than your foot, you can rip up to Vicky’s emporium and make a purchase – wrapping paper and scotch tape is available in the Shed. Otherwise, refrain from choosing a gift from the heap, when your name is called.
MORGAN - MOONEY DAY, the club’s 700th rostered monthly event, with 19 members and 4 visitors attending, produced the following results:
1st LIZARDS Chris Mooney - 45 points off 13 handicap
2nd LIZARDS Andrew Warner LM - 42 points on count-back off 21 handicap
1st VISITORS Brendan Waddell - 57 points off 36 handicap
2nd VISITORS Paul Huntley - 40 points off 22 handicap
BEST SCRATCH Chris Mooney - 32 points
BEST FRONT NINE Philip Brandon - 21 points on count-back off 32 handicap
BEST BACK NINE Brian Ellis - 24 points off 42 handicap
NEAREST the PINS 19+ 1st A Skinner 9th Paul Huntley
18- 1st A Skinner 9th Neil Winterton
LONGEST DRIVES 19+ 7th Glenn Castle
18- 7th John O'Meara
BRADMAN Lizards Gary Bird LM - 27 points off 24 handicap
Visitors Roy Donald - 27 points off 15 handicap
STABLEFORD MULTIPLIER WINNING PAIR
Philip Brandon and Brendan Waddell - 119 points
CCCCCCCCCMXVII points! The digital calculator blew a gasket through the glass dial, when the winner’s scores were put through the multiplier process, and we had to resort to a Roman abacus to attain a result.
CHRIS MOONEY enjoyed his first win in 2 years in September, and was tipped to come up with two more victories before next winter. This effort on his donors day was his best ever round – 6 over the card! Well done Chris – and you still have one to go.
ANDY WARNER LM made it to the pay window for his 4th second placing this year – prior to that, his last such trip was when he defeated Chris Mooney on a countback and took possession of the Dawson Carroll Trophy in December 1998!!!
BRENDAN WADDELL had no trouble taking out the visitor’s trophy.
PAUL HUNTLEY returned a neat 20 out and 20 back to pick up visitors second.
PRESIDENT GARRY BIRD LM, winner in August, has been Bradman for the past 2 months. He is likely to come good with a rush and give the D.C. Trophy a shake.
BOB PAYNE, during the meeting, was awarded a Credit Fine for donating a genuine Lizards stubby holder, then fined for breaking Wal Hill’s long standing “Most Three Putts” record.
THE CONTENT of the “Hole-In-One” tin is starting to register on Postie’s seismograph and likely to erupt soon. Our 2003 holes-in-one occurred in February and May and 2004 does not want to miss the boat. Today would be an ideal time to invest $2.

NEXT MONTH is MANFRED WAGNER’S CAPTAIN HANDICAPPER’S DAY
Manfred has been doing it hard these past few months – but is still supplying all the statistics and information vital for the running of the events. Assistant Handicapper Neil Winterton has filled the void in the Shed with nothing less than a five star exhibition of what to do when the chips are down.
We hope Manfred can join us for the Lizards Christmas
Good Golfing … Bill Epps, Editor
