WELCOME to GLENN CASTLE'S PRESIDENT'S DAY.

Our first inkling that another successful year is coming to an end - it's not a time for the hardworking president to start hanging up his boots.  There is still a smorgasbord of involvement on the presidential plate - by way of an away trip, unresolved annual competitions, the return of trophies for engraving, the where and when of the AGM, today's and next month's competitions at Avalon and the conduct of the AGM.

THE DAVID RAYNER MEMORIAL DAY, with 22 members and 1 visitor, produced the following results:

LIZARDS 1st Ian Massey 39 points off 17 handicap
LIZARDS 2nd Hartmut Schwarz 37 points off 28 handicap

VISITORS 1st Philip Brandon 30 points off 31 handicap

BEST SCRATCH  NGE

BEST FRONT NINE Andrew Warner LM 21 points off 21 handicap
BEST BACK NINE Neil Winterton 21 points off 13 handicap

BRADMAN Lizards Andrew Warner LM 25 points off 21 handicap
Visitors Philip Brandon 30 points off 31 handicap

                                         3rd Gary Castle

LONGEST DRIVES 19+  8th Michael Moran
                                  18-  8th Ian Massey

IAN MASSEY, with the April, Oct and Dec '03 visitors trophies under his belt, signed on as a Lizard in January.  After a gentlemanly settling in he southed the Dave Rayner Trophy and threw in a long drive for good measure.  Congratulations Ian.

HARTMUT SCHWARZ, with a recent 36 pointer and a best front nine in march, eventually worked his way back to the pay window.  Well played Hart.

ANDREW WARNER LM, won the best front nine as well as his quarter-final Lindenberg match - and still qualified for the BRADMAN DOWNER!?

BRAND NEW MEMBER Philip Brandon won his last match as a visitor and signed on as a Lizard when he was given top billing after the prize giving ceremony.  Being the only visitor to tee off on the day he had to join Andy Warner for the Bradman presentation.

RESULTS of the QUARTER FINALS of the LINDENBERG K.O. COMPETITION
Jim Small  def  Glenn Castle 3&2
Dennis Castle  def  Matthew Castle 1 up
Andrew Warner LM  def  Noel Quinlan 8&7
Michael Harrison  def  Colin Lacey 2&1

When the Lindenberg kicked off in Feb, there were more Castles on the skyline than in Disneyland - and now there is one.  With drawbridge secured, Dennis has multiple winners Jim and Andrew, as well as current titleholder Michael Harrison, paddling in his moat - AND AS the dark horse, could make a good place bet for the 2004 title.

DRAW for the SEMI-FINALS of the LINDENBERG K.O. COMPETITION:
Jim Small  vs  Dennis Castle
Andrew Warner LM  vs  Michael Harrison

We wish these keen finalists every good fortune.

THE HOLE-IN-ONE JACKPOT has passed the $300 mark and, in view of the 2 holes-in-one during the past 12 months, we are due for another any click of the tock.  So don't fail to register your name and pay the $2 before putting yourself in danger on the 1st tee.

TODAY'S ROUND will be good practice for the match at Mangrove Mountain at high noon next Sunday - we should be looking forward to the early run up the coast to the friendly atmosphere.  The par 70 course is 1800m longer than Royal Avalon, so you have six extra shots to make up the distance - 1/2 dozen 300m drives should do the trick.

TODAY'S PLAY

Putting Competition – count all of your putts (any shot played on the green is counted as a putt and wipes count as 3 putts each)

Nearest The Pins on All Par 3s – No Division of Grades

Longest Drives
Handicap of 19 or more  8th
Handicap of 18 or less    8th

Handicap Adjustments

Ian Massey    -1
Garry Bird LM, Philip Brandon, Michael Harrison, Michael Morgan, John O'Meara, Manfred Wagner, Neil Winterton  all +1

NEXT MONTH is COLIN LACEY'S VICE-PRESIDENT'S DAY, the LINDENBERG GRAND FINAL and FATHER and SON DAY.
