August 2003
WELCOME to LeMON - DELLA DAY Mk XVII. Last year Tony provided 23
trophies for a field of 25 players. This year he will be handing out
68 trophies to a similar sized contingent. He has split the contestants
into 2 divisions: 18- and 19+. There will be prizes for 1st and
2nd, Best Front and Back nines, Long Drives and Nearest the Pins IN EACH DIVISION.
There will be a prize for best scratch - the winner will be ineligible
for 1st or 2nd prize in his division. Winners of 1st and 2nd prizes
in each division will be ineligible for Best Front or Back nines.
Tony has been known to win his own trophy and - should this be the case
today, he will divert his winnings into the raffle. SO, if he wins his
division (12 balls) or is runner up (6 balls) or wins a Front or Back Nine
(3 balls) or a Long Drive (3 balls) and then jags a nearest the pin (1 ball),
there could be multiple prizes in the raffle. KEEP YOUR TICKET as winning
butts will be placed back in the barrel - giving the holder a chance for
every prize in the raffle.
VALE ROYLE JENKIN 1927 - 2003 Royle died on 29 July, 03 in
Ocean View Nursing Home, Mona Vale, after a long illness. Royle, an
active member of long standing, was President in 1974. It was during
his presidency that the expression "Royle Avalon" was coined and has been
carried on by all and sundry as Royal Avalon ever since. Bills Sheehan
and Epps attended the funeral and met up with two old Lizards John Atkins
and Peter Allen. Lizards sympathy has been conveyed to Royle's wife
Venice.

AIRIES
Wal Hill, Glenn Castle, Dennis Castle
Pres. Glenn, in preparation for his airies ordeal, handed the LIZARD to
Bill Sheehan for safe keeping. Bill jammed it into his side pocket,
with the tail snorkeling in fresh air. He then proceeded to conduct
the Airies, with vigorous hand and arm movements. As the Choir reached
a crescendo, the fickle finger of fate, attached to a helping hand, snaked
out from the seated sightseers and stealthily snavelled the saurus! It
was the first time since 1965, when Bill was president, that he had handled
the LIZARD - and he lost it in 30 seconds.
CLUB CHAMPION, Michael Morgan, bagged his first win since last August with
a tidy 38 points. He went to the top step of the dais again during the
General Business end of the meeting, when the president made his 3rd and
final entreaty for a caterer to fill the bill for the club's next meal. Michael
waited patiently through the full period of deafening silence and said "I'll
do the catering for next month."
SOME MEMBERS, who have never catered for a day, have mentioned they are
nervous to take on the task, after seeing Hart chastened, for a couple of
months, for providing inappropriate food - which was in fact plentiful and
very tasty.
GOOD TO SEE Andy Warner making his way to the pay window - his first since
May 2000.
JOHN SURPLICE was issued with a Lizard badge and 5c piece in June - but
we haven't seen him since. Does anyone know of his current state of
health?
BOB PAYNE visiting pro from Mangrove Mountain had a relaxing day - playing
off 5 he had rounds of 14 and 16.
