FLAT OUT LIKE

July 2003

WELCOME to GLENN "STRETCH" CASTLE, 58th PRESIDENT of the Lizards Golf Club.  Glenn joined in July '96 and, after a stint as caterer in 98, was enjoying coasting along on the seat of his pants, like the rest of us - till Plant Engineer/Baggage Man Bill Sheehan LM suffered a stroke in Feb 01 while holidaying in Wauchope - leaving the Lizards in a naked state of unpreparedness, making the "Humpty Dumpty and Wall" incident look like a kids nursery rhyme.  The answer to our bed-wetting enigmatic conundrum appeared in the March 01 F.O.L.:

EASY - five members, with assistance of others, filled the bill, with a minimum of glitches and no time to spare. Well done fellers — just as well the Lizards coped with the task, otherwise we would have had to delay referring to the Plant Engineer-Baggage Man as a useless old fart.

When the dust had settled on the fateful day, Glenn had shouldered 3/4 of the duties, and still is 0 he is also filling in as caterer on days when the Lizards look like going without a feed.

WHAT DOES A LIZARD DO when he looks like going without a feed?  Arms limp and dangling from stooped shoulders; Eyes focussed on the shoes; and Mouth in the stunned mullet position making soft mewling sounds.

GLENN S CASTLE IS PRESIDENT NOW and, at a rough guess, might set us off on an in-house LIZARDS SURVIVAL COURSE the ensure the members can sustain their Lizard life style for another 50 odd years.  Congratulations Stretch, you have set a good example; Welcome to the chair.

Today is EPPS-MEREDITH DAY Mk XXII, the first fixture on the 2003-4 menu and the club's 685th rostered monthly event.  Our latest Life Member send his trophy, a big cheerio and best wishes for our health.  Thanks Nifty.

ASSISTANT HANDICAPPER COLIN LACEY made an unprecedented dash to the tape for the club championship - he swooped from behind the eight ball to 3rd place, by the way of wins in Feb, May and June.  Congratulations on your double header, the first since Chris Mooney won in Sept-Oct 99.

NEW VISITOR CHARLIE GONIDELLIS took out the visitors trophy with a neat 35 points off 15.

FATHER AND SON trophy holders Dennis and Gary Castle retained possession until 2004.  Contenders, Jim and Jake Small, both suffered from bad rounds.  Jake, Visitors Bradman, scored more points than Jim.

THE LINDENBERG FINALISTS, Jim Small, triple title holder, and Michael Harrison, quadruple runner up, had met previously in the circumstances - on this occasion, Michael came out in front, to take out the Lindenberg title for the first time.  Congratulations to both players for their performances over the past 3 months.
