March 2003
WELCOME to DAVE RAYNER (1958-1999) MEMORIAL DAY.
DAVE - "The Grizz" - sported wire wool hair and a yard broom textured
beard - giving the appearance of a bright eyed thatched roof, when he joined
the Lizards in Nov '87 - then, in the mid 90's, had his facial forest felled,
revealing the countenance of a cherub foundling. The Lizards enjoyed
every minute of his unfettered nature during his 11 year membership and
appreciate Jim Small changing the Small-Rayner Day to this memorial event.
We will be toasting the Grizz and donor Jim at today's meeting.
FOUNDATION/LIFE MEMBERS DAY, with 18 members and 4 visitors, produced the
following results:

COLIN LACEY, Asst Handicapper, celebrated his first win since he won the
Dawson Carroll Trophy, 41 months ago! Congratulations Colin. His
first job, after the dust settled, was to reduce his handicap by 3 shots.
KEVIN O'BRYAN, on his first appearance, skittled the visitors with 8 points
to spare.
MICHAEL MORAN'S name keeps bobbing up since his first mention in June
last year - with 3 seconds and a Bradman under his belt, he should crack
it for a first in visitors before winter sets in.
LIFE MEMBER Garry Bird knew he needed 5 points to play to his handicap
and have a chance to finish in the top ten - with one hole, the inauspicious
18th, to play. He hit his tee shot high and straight, it hit the green,
rolled towards the pin, and IN for an ace! - and 5 points. Congratulations
Garry.

ST PATRICKS DAY tomorrow - close enough to warrant a touch of green to
avoid a fine. Last yea Lizards Day fell on the 17th - for the 5th
time in the history of the club. Dublin does not get too excited about
the event, but Sydney and New York make a quid with the replica shamrocks
and top hats with buckles - let alone what flows over the bars.
NEXT MONTH is TREASURER LIFE MEMBER GORDON DONALD'S POSTIE DAY Mk
I - may it be the first of many of these days.
Good Golfing……….Bill Epps, Editor
