WELCOME to FOUNDATION/LIFE MEMBERS DAY; the Lindenberg Qualifying Round and the 678th rostered monthly tournament.

FOUNDER LEON LIST, licensee of the Steyne Hotel, and known colloquially as The Lizard”, set the ball rolling, after a round of golf with his mates from the Cellarette Bar”, when he said This is a pretty good - why don’t we make it a regular thing.” That was 57 and a half years ago - Hats Off to Leon and the scores of Lizards who have guided the Club, through thick and thin, in the course of its history.

LIFE MEMBERS Bill Sheehan, Gordon Donald, Bill Epps, Garry Bird and Andy Warner are today’s donors -additional prizes include Lizards 3rd, all par 3’s and Bradman.

MANFRED’S CAPTAIN HANDICAPPERS DAY, with 21 Lizards and 9 Visitors, produced the following results:

Visitors Mick Jones 28 points off 36 handicap

AIRIES: Col Lacey, Garry Castle, Andy Warner, Jake, Wal Hill and Hart.

RAFFLE:  as a departing gesture, Tony Della increased the prize list from one to eight, setting a scene of gaiety and chain reaction mayhem - assisted by Croupier Postie” throwing the winning tickets back into the hat - causing them to be with drawn with unerring accuracy. When the dust settled, dozens of ticket holders were nursing objects they had never owned before, while the slow and infirm were chanting Who won the Raffle!”

GLEN CASTLE, Bradman the previous month, improved his score by 21 shots to storm home in 5 points clear of the field. It was his third win this Millennium. Congratulations Stretch

ALLAN PODER appeared to have slipped the handicapper a mickey, when he returned a score of 29 points on the front nine and an overall total of 52. However, over the past 2 years, his best scores, with the same handicap, have been 31,26 and 36- when he won the VISITORS TROPHY in SEP.01. If any of us are uncertain on how to achieve such a feat -just ask Stretch.

WINNER of the Stroke Event was John Surplice, a visitor these past two months. On his first appearance he won the Visitor’s Trophy with 48 off 17 and scored a hole . in . one on the 18th. Reduced 5 shots for his exuberance, he bounced back with a 39 pointer, but was good enough to take out the Captain’s special event - on a countback from Anthony Beale.

DONOR, Manfred had a successful day - nearest the pin with his second shot on the 7th, a longest drive, finished 4th past the post and enjoyed the largest field of players for 12 months.

WAL HILL, the Lizard who ejected head first from the cabin of his stationary truck, when coming face to face with a rubber snake - to the amusement of his work mates”. After putting up with an extremely painful shoulder for a few months, he arranged admission to R.N.S. Hospital where he underwent surgery for a few hours to reconnect tendons and generally put the damaged area back into working order. He is at home with his arm in a sling and a guarantee that he can’t play golf for 6 months - we are thinking of you Walter.
