October 2002

WELCOME to CASTLE HILL PLATE DAY MkIV: A day conducive of high scoring orgies.  Chris Mooney won the first event by shooting nine under his handicap; next year Michael Harrison followed suit with 9 under, and last year Tony Della broke the tape with 6 under his handicap.  Michael Harrison was playing off 6 when he took the Castle Hill Trophy - to score 9 under his handicap he fired a round of 3 under the card!: the best round by a Lizard since Leon List blew time on in 1946.  The points feeding frenzy seeped through to the runners-up.  Donor Wal Hill scored 41 points and Hart came good with a ball busting 43 pointer.  We thank our genial donors for generating such golfing goings-on.

WARNER DAY, with 22 members and 4 visitors, produced the following results:

LIZARDS 1st Chris Mooney 44 points off 13 handicap
LIZARDS 2nd Col Lacey 39 points off 26 handicap

VISITORS 1st Jake Small 34 points off 48 handicap
VISITORS 2nd Gerry Manderson 32 points off 20 handicap

BEST FRONT NINE Wal Hill 22 points off 44 handicap
BEST BACK NINE John O'Meara 23 points off 18 handicap

CHRIS MOONEY, after 2 wins in the first half of 2001, found his way back to the pay window.  Well played Chris

COLIN LACEY, long standing worker in the Handicapping Department, has not stood within coo-ee of the winner's dais since winning the Dawson Carroll Cup in December '99 with 44 points!  CONGRATULATIONS Col.  Indicates there are no freebies for those in the know.

JAKE had his first win since July '01 - when he won with 22 points - being the sole visitor he qualified for Bradman as well.

PHIL PEDDER, during the same period, has been Bradman once, runner-up thrice and had one win.

GERRY MANDERSON has celebrated 2 wins and a second over the past three months.

THE CUSTARD BALL COMP was taken out by the winners of the Andrew Warner LM Trophies, with Manfred Wagner and Andy Warner as passengers.

DONOR W.H.B. HILL was unaided cook/caterer for the day.  The solo position was not of his behest - it was dropped on him as no-one else wanted it.  He was not enamored of the directive, however, on the day, with perfect timing, a delightful young lady and a male partner arrived with a car load of hot and cold smorgasbord, which filled the trestle table, and a sumptuous lunch was enjoyed by all.  110 points to Walter for his expedience.

JIM SMALL, and passenger Andy Warner, headed off in the morning in the golf cart to circumnavigate the course, but on the downhill 7th the shiny 4 wheeler thought the view was too good and cut the circuit short, to make an immovable spectacle of itself.  Jim, not to be outdone, played on - he hired a buggy from Vicki and pulled it around the back nine.  An incredible effort for a man with brand new tin knees!

THE GIANT ESKY has been fitted with 2 Lizard-proof brass hinges - at a rough guess it will be either Stretch or Dennis Castle that we have to thank.

THE RAFFLE was a double header.  Wal Hill was first out of the hat and chose the smart looking Royal Avalon polo top, kindly donated by Vicki Jellis.  They are on sale now at Vicki's emporium.
