July 2002
WELCOME to NEIL WINTERTON, 57th PRESIDENT of the LIZARDS GOLF CLUB. NEIL enjoyed a lively stint as V.P. and is looking forward to his term in the chair.
TODAY is EPPS - MEREDITH DAY MkXXI, the first event on the 2002-3 fixture
card and the club's 673rd rostered monthly competition. Neville joined
in May 1981 and took on the shared donorship the following year. He
was a behind the scene asst. caterer and provider for the whole of his active
membership and took on the unexpected vacancy as secretary in Oct 88 - "until
the next election". Elected unopposed, he remained the club's most
innovative secretary in 43 years - till he returned to Port Macquarie in
May 93. Our annual pilgrimage to Port, to rub shoulders with this Lizard
- and compete in the "Nifty Plate" - is a highlight of our calendar. He
sends his trophy, annual subs, kind regards and regrets being unable to attend
the AGM.

JOHN O'MEARA teed off knowing he could could become the Club Champion if he won the day, Michael Harrison failed to make second place, and Manfred stayed at home. John played his best round for 12 months and won, giving him a grand total of 100 championship points. Michael Harrison finished 13th and dropped out of the frame. Manfred, Club Captain and Handicapper, always plays and was 9th past the post, earning him 6 championship points and a total of 100. Congratulations to both players for their Siamese finish - both names will appear on the imposing silver cup.
WAL HILL won in Nov 01 with 40 points and was 2nd past the post last month - which earned him 1.5l of Lamberti Bordolino from the far north of Italy - but he was still Bradman title holder for the year 2001-2.
Congratulations to Dennis and Grant Castle for their first Castle combination
win in the Annual Father and Son Trophy. Dennis and Glenn were runners-up
in the 2000 competition, when there were 9 teams competing, and again in
2001 with 3 teams competing.
THE LINDENBERG GRAND FINAL was run and won. Finalists Michael Harrison and Neil Winterton were all square at the 2nd, 4th, 8th, 10th and Neil was 1 up at the 14th. It was obvious the impending winner would have to win some consecutive holes. Both players pressed the GO button - Michael scoring birdie, par, birdie while Neil, with his thumb still on the trigger, fired birdie, birdie, eagle - and won 3 and 1. Congratulations to this brace of players who have been grinding away at this unrelenting competition for 5 months.
