May 2002

WELCOME to John O'Meara's PRESIDENTS DAY.  John is enjoying his stint in the chair - his only concerns at this late stage are the gathering and engraving of the multitude of annual trophies plus the organisation and conduct of the AGM.  John will round off another successful year for the club when he awards the PADDLE for 2001-2 and presents THE LIZARD to our 57th president.

SHACKLE DAY, with 21 members and 5 visitors, produced the following results:

LIZARDS 1st Michael Morgan 40 points off 20 handicap (countback)
LIZARDS 2nd Tony Della 40 points off 13 handicap

VISITORS 1st Peter McKinn 43 points off 36 handicap
VISITORS 2nd Joseph O'Meara 39 points off 38 handicap

BEST SCRATCH SCORE none

BEST FRONT NINE Neil Winterton 20 points off 17 handicap
BEST BACK NINE Manfred Wagner 21 points off 23 handicap

MICHAEL MORGAN chalked up his first win for 21 months - on a count back from Tony Della.  Tony had a faultless round of 20 for both nines whereas Michael suffered a flash of brilliance over the last few holes to card 23 for the back nine.

BRAND NEW VISITOR Peter McKinn wasted no time in making himself known - we hope he enjoyed the day and will be back again.

RESULTS of the Quarter-finals of the LINDENBERG:

Neil Winterton       def   Hart Schwarz 5 and 4
Chris Mooney       def   Andrew Warner retired
Michael Harrison   def   Glen Castle 7 and 6
Jim Small               def   John O'Meara 1 up

Draw for the Semi-finals of the LINDENBERG:

Neil Winterton      vs   Jim Small
Michael Harrison  vs   Chris Mooney

Best of luck to all contenders.

FINES, some were:

Wal Hill:     Wearing his Lizards shirt whilst painting; bringing a nearly empty gas bottle complete with cobwebs and a giant spider; and standing on the 2nd tee, clutching a shiny new driver, waiting to hit off and after his first shot wishing he was still waiting.

Hart           Raving on continuously about sinking a 50 foot putt on the 16th.

Postie        Saying to new visitor Peter McKinn "Sorry! I have forgotten your name".  No wonder, he had never seen him before.

The AGM is on the drawing board for 2nd July at the Dee Why RSL Club.  More information as it comes to hand.
