FLAT OUT LIKE

April 2002

WELCOME to SHACKLE DAY MkXII.  Neil's first mention in FOL was in Feb '83 when, as a visitor, he carded 50 points off 35.  Over the next 69 months he became our most constant and longest running visitor - eventually selecting a sheet of butcher's paper and taking out Lizard citizenship in Nov '88.  We thank him for his donorship and consider him a good each-way bet to win the event.

DAVID RAYNER MEMORIAL DAY, with 22 members and 4 visitors, produced the following results:

LIZARDS 1st Michael Harrison 38 points off 7 handicap
LIZARDS 2nd Jim Small 28 points off 15 handicap

VISITORS 1st Gerry Manderson 40 points off 25 handicap
VISITORS 2nd Phil Peddar 35 points off 20 handicap

SAINT PATRICK'S DAY coincided with our 3rd Sunday so President John O'Meara opened the meeting by giving the Lizard a good shot of Guinness.

JIM SMALL welcomed the visitors and then imparted a few kind thoughts about the GRIZZ.

GORDON DONALD, our new octogenarian, was called on stage to receive a cake with candle - whereupon the Pres got on with the prize giving.

MICHAEL HARRISON had one of his rare wins.  He had to shoot 7 over the card to earn 36 points and a 36 pointer has not won the day since Neil Shackle beat Dave Rayner on a countback in July '90.  Michael's previous success was in Oct 2000 when he came in with 45 points off 6 - a round of TWO UNDER THE CARD!

VISITOR Gerry Manderson cruised to the pay window on day one.

ENZO TOPPANO, Bradman the previous month, qualified for the title again by losing on a countback with Barry Winterton.

FINES, some were:

Dawson Carroll        Booking this return flight to Ireland without permission from the committee.

Gerry Mander          For his contribution to the Zimbabwean election.

John O'Meara          Causing a major traffic jam when he stopped his car in peak hour to challenge a pedestrian to produce his Lizard.

Geoff Warren           Following another stint in New Zealand, was fined for coming back - but was thoughtful enough to bring back a fresh supply of NZ 5 cent pieces.
