FLAT OUT LIKE

January 2002

WELCOME to 2002 complete with its pyrotechnic display; good wishes; new year revolutions; and personal promises to retain our bad habits - with variable moderation. An example of this would be Simon Rusky and Bin Laden occupying twin-share accommodation in Uruguay.

TODAY is CAPTAIN/HANDICAPPERS DAY. Manfred, midway through his 3rd term, is doing a sterling job with ball to ball breakdowns of various games, updated points ratings for annual trophies and an even distribution of lead in the saddle bags of the regular players. The few wild card entries, who slip through the usual customs, are being given special attention. Manfred is ably assisted by Col Lacey.

CHRISTMAS CARROLL DAY, with 22 members and 7 visitors, produced the following results:

LIZARDS 1st Alan Lewis 44 points off 13 handicap (and winner of the Dawson Carroll Trophy)
LIZARDS 2nd Chris Mooney 43 points off 12 handicap

ALAN LEWIS, with 9 3 pointers and 8 2’s, narrowly defeated Chris Mooney with 8 3’s and 9 2’s in the quest for the Dawson Carroll Cup. Dawson’s presentation to the winner included a bottle of thrice distilled Black Bush Whiskey, produced by the Old Bush Mills - the oldest licensed distillery in the world - they have been making the product since 1608. Congratulations Alan.

CHRIS MOONEY was the recipient of a 1997 Gold Medal winning bottle of Rosemount Estate Chardonnay, complete with a Rosemount corkscrew and housed in a timber case. Well played Chris.

JOHN O’MEARA, 3 times winner of the D.C. trophy, burst out of the starters box to lead the field at the halfway mark with 23 points, but faded to the back of the pack with a 12 pointer on the second nine.

ENZO TOPPANO celebrated his first win at Lizards - by going home before the prize giving. Enzo admitted, during the morning, that he prefers playing the keyboard these days - rather than wrestling with an accordion.

GARY CASTLES application for membership surfaced during the meeting whereupon he was voted in and issued with his Lizards hardware. We wish him a long and fruitful association - and we can now boast of more castles than Disneyland.

THE JAMBEROO - CALDERWOOD weekend, 23-24 March, is nearing the mark for final arrangements and will be given some air time during the meeting. Tee times (booked but too be confirmed) are Jamberoo Saturday 1:00pm and Calderwood Sunday 11:3Oam. Any questions see the Vice-Captain Neil Winterton who is also handling the accommodation bookings
