WELCOME to MORGAN MOONEY DAY MK III. The M& M’s, Michael and Chris, are well organised on their donor day - while one presents the prizes the other dispenses the downer from his on-stage victuallers booth. We thank them for their array of prizes.

TONY DELLA chalked up his first win in 15 months. He usually does well on his donors day, but, on this occasion, hit his peak a little earlier.
PRESIDENT John O’Meara thought he was on a good thing having carded a rare 43 pointer, but found himself embroiled in a 3 way countback - which placed him third on the day, excluding him from the prize winners list! “Hard Cheese” Boss, and congratulations to Hart on his second trip to the pay window in 5 months.
MICHAEL HARRISON, with a neat round of 2 over the card, took out the best scratch.
FIRST TIME VISITOR Werner Schlee was given a handicap of 19 shots in excess of his norm, due to a computer glitch. Werner picked up 28 points on the front nine and 27 on the back for a total of 55 points - the equivalent of 17 birdies and 1 eagle! We regret any embarrassment we may have caused Werner and hope he pays another visit whereby we can amend our error.
BILL SHEEHAN LM, Plant Engineer; Baggage Man, Cook, general factotum and mentor, returned to Avalon and the sound of Lizard voices for the first time since succumbing to illness in January. Bright eyed and nippy on his feet he went straight to the BBQ and cooked the halfway snacks and lunches. During the meeting he won the raffled scotch and in a second draw for a mystery parcel (containing one new Lizards Shirt plus a Lizards Glass) and won that too! The draw for the scotch was a fair dinkum win - the mystery parcel was a set-up for Bill’s benefit. The organisers were amazed that he took out the double. Bill will be on deck today and hopes to make his attendance an ongoing thing.
JIM SMALL, if all goes well, will be introducing his golf cart to Avalon
- an historic occasion. Finding a way around the course whereby no damage
is caused to the cart or the course could be a good mental exercise for Bourke
and Wills.
THE PORT MACQUARIE NIFTY PLATE has been run and won. A team of 18 Lizards headed north on Friday 2nd. Andy Warner and party had grid position and set off at first light. An on sight reporter gives an account of the long awaited golfing weekend hereunder.
“The complete contingent of 18 travellers sampled the local conditions
with a quick nine at the Camden Haven Golf Course at Kew on the Friday afternoon,
November 1st. Nifty was collected from Lake Cathie to walk the mob around
the dry and blustery course, where some good scores and thirsts were complied.
The Lizards and Visitors Gus Braizer and Gary Castle repaired to the Port
Macquarie Hotel in central port to sort out their lodgings, before heading
to the bar and then on to various establishments for dinner. Only one major
incident occurred during the evening, those not in “the know” will soon be.
18 combatants and one refugee form the Tampa descended upon a very dry Emerald Downs the following day for the Nifty Plate. Scores and results attached. Upon completion of the round, the clubhouse provided the facilities for a BBQ, which was greatly appreciated by the windblown competitors. A group photo was taken by one of the locals for publication in the local rag.
The Sunday was the inaugural competition for the Sheehan Mug, a new trophy donated by Michael Harrison which was contested by almost the full contingent and the first winner being Neil Shackle. The by now not so nifty Nifty was returned to Lake Cathie and gradually the Lizards returned to Sydney”
