September 2001
WELCOME to DELLA DAY MkXV. Tony was the instigator of prizes for the best scratch score, the front and back nines, long drives and nearest the pins on all par 3’s. The Club carried on with these prizes - except the NTP on all par 10 threes.
TODAY the NTP’s on the front nine will be for the 18- players and the 5 short holes on the back nine are for the 19 and overs.
LAST YEAR Tony won the day with 39 points off 14 - his first win since 1993! Michael Harrison was the only player to win 2 NTP’s. Hats off to our benevolent Corey Pavin lookalike.
WARNER DAY, with 19 members and 7 visitors, produced the following results:

Custard Ball Winners J. Haas, M Harrison, A. Warner and A. Townsend - 41 Points
NOEL QUINLAN, for the past 15 months, has been chipping away at the winner’s circle - without cracking it. On this occasion he put his ears back, threw caution to the wind, fired a four pointer followed by seven 3 pointers and made it to the winners dais with 3 shots to spare. Congratulations Noel.
MANFRED won the September game last year and came close to notching up two wins in 12 months. His handicapping is still on the ball - the first 10 months past the post had the average score of 35.6. The average handicap of the 18 playing members was 19.9 - seven playing off 18 and under and eleven on 19 and over.
THE LIZARDS have sported some notable visitors - but none as cuddly as the Hairy Nosed Wombat. Weighing in heavily on the countback, he took the visitors’ trophy - and rooted out a nearest the pin before he shuffled off the first tee.
BILL EPPS, whose record boasts a nearest the pin every third pancake day, has knocked off the NTP on the 1st for the past 3 months - that’s the same odds on there being no boat people landing on Christmas Island before the end of the week.
G. CASTLE earned the Bradman members/visitors double - with 3 slots apiece. An unusual downer duet.
THE NIFTY PLATE safari to Port Macquarie 3/4 November is on the launching pad and counting. There are still a couple of vacancies for this once a year adventure, so book in today at the travel counter in the Shed.
