FLAT OUT LIKE

July 2001

WELCOME to JOHN O'MEARA, 56th Lizards President.  John was Vice President in 1993, but not a contender for the presidency the following year, being knee deep in some tertiary pursuit at the college of knowledge.  He is a fully blown whatever it is now - and able to fritter away some of his time enjoying himself.

VICE PRESIDENT NEIL WINTERTON, a refreshing bright eyed new neck on the block, joined in January and was the 3rd most prolific winner of members nearest the pins, best front nines and long drives for the whole of the past 12 months.  Congratulations on your election - and golfing prowess.

Today is EPPS-MEREDITH DAY Mkxx.  Nev Meredith joined in 1981 and slotted into the dual donorship in '82 - when Bill's previous co-donor, Fred Hanson, moved off to greener pastures.  This was the era when the Lizards changed from 3 nines of draught beer to cans - whereby one could enjoy half a dozen different flavours, including lite; left overs could be stored instead of being taken to DY for the last rites, in Bill Sheehan's back room - and the whole process was less expensive and easier to transport.  Nifty sends his trophy, annual subs, and a big cheerio to all.  He is looking forward to the Nifty Plate reverting to Port Macquarie later this year.

COLIN LACEY'S VICE PRESIDENT'S DAY, with 22 members and 5 visitors, produced the following results:

LIZARDS 1st Hartmut Schwarz 46 points off 35 handicap
LIZARDS 2nd Dennis Castle 42 points off 22 handicap

HART SCHWARZ, one time King of the Airies, is taming his swing and celebrated his fourth win in the past 2 years.  Well played Hart.

DENNIS CASTLE, with 3 visitors trophies under his belt since December, joined in April and went straight for the big bikkies with a better than faultless round - but was blown away by Hart's atomic 10 under.

JAKE SMALL won his second visitor's trophy in 3 months and towed grandfather Jim over the line to take the annual Father and Son Trophy.

THE LINDENBERG FINAL, between David Gilchrist and the more favoured Chris Mooney, went to David 6 and 5!  Chris, with a 12 month average of 35.2 points, carded a round of 8 over his handicap, which was not conducive of too many winning holes in the match play.  Congratulations to both finalists for making the hard yards over the past 3 months.

THE FATHER and SON COMPETITION was won by Jim and Jake Small with 76 points.  The Castles scored 75 and the Mooneys 58.
