March 2001
WELCOME to DAVE RAYNER MEMORIAL DAY. The Nov 87 issue of F.O.L reports: “THE GRIZZ and JIM SMALL slurped up the visitors trophies in their last fling before becoming Lizard backbenchers. Both aspirants read their application for membership to an empty paddock, the bemused members cringing behind any available cover. The President, attuned more to their wealth, rather than any moral values, had them signed up while the voting masses emerged from the scrub.”
OTHER VISITORS on that fateful day included Geoff Warren, Neil Shackle and Wal Hill.
THE MEMBERS, as well as the Grizz, enjoyed his 11 years with the Club,
JIM SMALL is doner for the MEMORIAL DAY

DAVID CALLEIJA notched up his first win since becoming a Lizard in June — and lost 6 strokes for his commendable effort! Don’t feel too sorry for the youthful prodegy — he still has a couple of shots up his sleeve and improves every time he walks onto a course.
JAKE SMALL, cadet visitor of long standing and Bradman the previous month, burst through the tape for his first victory. Congratulations Jake.
FINES, some were:
Chris Mooney and John O’Meara Usurping senior member status
by using electric buggies.
Courtney Kingston Enquiring whether he could pay his dues with frequent flyer points
Harry Lemmetty Dropping out, with a dull thud, at the half way mark, due to a self inflicted night out.
David Calleija
Not attending for the past 4 months because he was winning Junior Pennant
Matches.
LIFE MEMBER BILL SHEEHAN set the cat among the greyhounds by succumbing to intensive care, in Wauchope hospital, a few days prior to last months golf day.
HOW was a complacent bunch of Lizards going to cause the tablecloths, forks, salad bowls, condiments, cutting boards, carving knives, glasses, pewters, cooks tools, apron, sliced bread, bread rolls, full strength beer, lite beer, ice, 60 litre ice box, esky, latest issue of F.O.L and the Lizard bell to be delivered to the course AND the Shed ,“Bar” and cooking facility to be set up, complete with seating for all, prior to the arrival of the members and visitors??
EASY — five members, with assistance of others, filled the bill, with a minimum of glitches and no time to spare. Well done fellers — just as well the Lizards coped with the task, otherwise we would have had to delay referring to the Plant Engineer-Baggage Man as a useless old fart.
THE JAMBEROO WEEKEND 3-4 March, attracted a record turn out of 14 members and 3 visitors
DAVE COLLINS fresh from Dallas, Texas, on a business trip, ripped 2 days from his tight skedoolie to enjoy rounds on the Jamberoo and Calderwood courses
Results of the Jamberoo Matches were:

LIZARDS 3rd David Gilchrist 33 points off 18 handicap

BEST SCRATCH nobody
NEAREST THE PINS / LONGEST DRIVES
The longest drive / nearest the pin markers were not put out by the leading
group at the designated holes, so no prizes were given.
BRADMAN Lizards Wal Hill 22 points off 37
handicap
Visitors Graeme Innes 33 points off 17 handicap
Although there was no competition on the Saturday 3rd it was felt that some prizes should be given out - a litre of bourbon for the winning member and a bottle labelled “Fucking Good Port” (yes really!) to the other prize winners.
The winners were:
LIZARDS 1st Hartmut Schwarz 36 points off 33 handicap
LIZARDS 2nd Michael Harrision 35 points off 6 handicap
VISITORS 1st Barry Winterton 24 points off 14 handicap
FRANK VAN HEYNINGAN suffered the only mishap. While cruising around the course in a golf cart, his clubs took a dive from a bridge — the bag and clubs plunging heads first into the mud at the bottom of the creek, effectively taking the shine off his second nine
ALL CONTENDERS GAVE THE WEEKEND 10 out of 10 and are on the waiting list for the next Jamberoo jaunt.
ON THE HOMEFRONT, the PRESIDENTS DAY in May will be a special day for visitors, with additional prizes for place getters plus best front and back nines, nearest the pins and long drives. Start planning now on how many visitors you could bring to help spread the wealth.
