February 2001

WELCOME to FOUNDATION/LIFE MEMBERS DAY; the Lindenberg Qualifying Round; and the 654th rostered monthly meeting.

FOUNDER, LEON LIST, was the licensee of the Steyne Hotel in the early post war years, when bottled beer was as prevalent as a win in the State Lottery. He would bring a few quart bottles, filled with the finest draught beer, to the course to wash down the steak lunch. He also provided a few snippets from the pub larder. On one occasion, when the cupboard was bare, he made a sortie to Manly Beach, armed with a flask of rum and a cup of rice - returning to the kitchen with 2 dozen drunken pigeons which he handed over to the chef. When he arrived at the course he had 24 freshly cooked squat, as well as the liquid gold. Hats off to the Founder.

THE LIFE MEMBERS are here in force - prizes today include Lizards 3rd and all par 3s - making a total of 20 chances to score a win. L.M. Donors are Bill Sheehan, Gordon Donald, Bill Epps, Garry Bird and Andy Warner.

CHRIS MOONEY, with a neat 7 over the card, chalked up his first success since his brace of wins in Sep - Oct 99. Chris’ best was a 4 over the card in Dec 98 - when he was beaten on a countback.

GLEN CASTLE, fogged the handicappers crystal ball by firing his personnel best — and lost three shots for his effort.

DENNIS CASTLE, not to be outdone by his son, produced his best round at Lizards to take the visitors trophy — for the second time in two months.

HART SCHWARZ slipped into the Bradman slot after enjoying a 41 pointer the previous month.

NEIL WTNTERTON, a constant visitor over the past five months, with 2 Bradmans and a win to his credit, had his application for membership accepted by all and sundry and was inducted into the Club. Congratulations Neil, we wish you a long and happy association with the Lizards.
