On this web site, you will find information on housing and caring for the Geyri Uromastyx and for most uromastyx lizards. Though there are different opinions out there, you will find that it's never one thing that works best. What works well for some, may not have the same results for others. If you're considering purchasing and raising a reptile, this will hopefully provide you with enough information for you to decide if a Uromastyx is for you as well as providing a starting point for you to set up a habitat for your new pet.

On another important matter, as of 05/20/02, Lizzy, my Mali, died. This was due mostly to high levels of lead in her blood. After some research, it turns out that her favorite pearch, a cement block from the yard, had unhealthy levels of lead. I haven't been able to find any literature on this subject (so it's probably not well known), but my herp vet near me had told me (after the fact) that she'd been looking into cement and other items normally thought of as "safe" and had found that these items can contain toxic levels of lead for reptiles. Please, assess what is in your reptiles habitat, and look for any kind of cement and fired and glazed pottery, as well as the obvious painted surfaces that may contain lead. I don't want anyone else to have to deal with the loss.
