jr finishes 2 laps down in 15th place. sunday's race started out with a first lap crash. it involved jr spinning out a kyle petty in turn 1. this in the second week in a row that jr has spun a petty car, last week it was andretti, this week it was kyle. but after the race got back under green, jr was able to move up through the field slowly. because of the long stretches of green and the different pit strategies, jr was able to get into 9th place. but that was highest he was able to get all day. after restarting one lap down in 9th place, jr fell back to 15th and was lapped a again to put him two laps down to the leader at the end of the race. jr didn't get to lead a lap and stays 7th in points. results. 11/4/01

NEW HELMET? Dale Earnhardt Jr. remains one of the few drivers not to use a full-face helmet. That nearly changed earlier this year. Earnhardt Jr. wore a full-face helmet in the 24 Hours of Daytona race and used one in the first Cup practice at Daytona before his father saw it. "My father asked me to put it up and not use it anymore," Earnhardt Jr. said. "He was really adamant about that." Earnhardt used an open-face helmet. jr gets a top 5 finish at lowe's. jr's day started out great, getting up to even the 2nd positon. but during an early caution the crew discovered a number of problems with the car and had to pit multiple times to get it somewhat fixed. even though he started in the back of pack, he was able to move up many positions and even had a 13.2 second pit stop. because of the long stretch of green, jr was able to move up into the top 10, then into the top 5. jr walked away with a 4th place finish, but stayed 7th in points. race results. 10/7/01

jr finishes in 33rd after a late race crash at kansas. the day started out with a lot of action. they didn't even get to run a whole a lap before the first wreck happened! and poor john andretti had no where to go when compton and atwood got together. but all of this is what jr needed to gain positions. since he started in 22nd, he quickly went up to around 16th and stayed there for a while. but when a caution was thrown and most of the leaders went for 4 tires, jr only took gas. he restarted in 3rd! but late in the race his right front tire went down and he had a hard crash into the outside wall. even though he crashed and received his 3rd DNF of the season, he had high praises for the new track in an interview after the wreck. all and all, he got 5 bonus points for leading, but he lost one spot in the points to rusty wallace and is now 7th. race results. 9/30/01

jr wins the mbna cal ripken jr 400!! at the start of the race jr was out front and leading on lap 3. he had great pit stops unti rudd started challenging him for the lead. rudd frequently got out in front of him during cautions. on one of the last pit stops he had a 17+ stop and got out 8th. he was able to move up to the lead with about 30 laps to go and retained it until the end of the race. he lead about 190 laps giving him the 10 bonus points. he has moved back into the 6th position in points. full results. 9/23/01

jr ends up a disapointing 37th at phoenix.
the day started out good for jr. he was able to move up several positions early on in the
race. he had moved up from his starting position, 30th, to around the mid teens when he
spun out the 43 car of john andretti. a few laps after spinnig andretti, he tried to go
down pit road and almost cause another accident while slamming his brakes and that left
dave blaney no where to go and so blaney hit the back of jr's car hard. but jr was able to
get down pit road and the team saw that problem would've taken too long to fix and so they
retired the car from the race. phoenix was jr's 4th DNF of the year and he dropped one
position to 7th in points.
