2.9 laps practice and 1.9 timed (from a standing start)
Notes:
A bit of a dissapointing Sunday as we didn't manage to get
any timed runs in due to a hole in the gearbox! The practise went well, we both were taking it fairly easily,
finding our feet again after over 6 months break. I started feeling more confident on the second lap in practise
and was looking forward to improving during the timed runs. The weather was fine in the morning and for practise,
then some clouds arrived just before our first timed run and a few spots of rain fell. Not enough to wet the
circuit and we were both in the car waiting to line up when disaster struck. The marshals came running over
shouting for us to turn the engine off and aim the car onto the gravel as they pushed... we didn't have a clue
what they were talking about, obeying while thinking there was petrol/flames/engine oil flooding out. Once we
were out of the car we discovered that it was none of these but red gearbox oil draining itself from a hole
in the casing. It seems that a stray piece of metal found its way to get wedged between the diff and the casing
and when we moved off, pushed against the side and made a hole! Well, that was the end of that. Mark hooked
the car onto the A-frame and after a chat and view of some of the other cars, headed for home. Time to start
saving for a replacement unit - possibly something specifically for racing...
