"Smoke Signals" is airing on Monday and "The Minion" is airing on Thursday, June 22nd.
Looks like the television networks have finally seen sense and are trying to schedule MG at least once
a day!! Can't wait till till he gets his own channel (...to be called, what else?.... MTV!! *g*)

Good news for South African fans!!

  Homepage: Voting Booth!!!

DSTV has been airing SWCH of a regular basis lately on the TMMC channel, so checkyour DSTV
guides for details!! *grin* it's almost like MTV (Michael TV) has come to South Africa!!!

Here's a funny 'Michael' anecdote from the Krohn household.....hubby was sitting in front of the TV
trying to catch what he could of the PGA golf, and was channel-hopping during the adverts, when all of
a sudden I heard him yell "Come quickly Sonja!! There's a Native American guy on the TV!!" LOL! (he
knows my interests)! I rushed into the TV room, and there was Michael in SWCH! I said,
   "Dear....*Thinking to
myself.... are ALL men this dim-witted??!*......THAT'S Michael Greyeyes!! The guy I've been going on
about! We've only got like FOUR videos of his here in the house!" Oh boy!!! I'll be REALLY miffed if
he fails to recognise Michael next time he's on the screen!! (I'll make a fan of that husband of mine if
it's the LAST thing I do!! LOL!)

Aha!! So now we know why the LHKMB (Lord High Keeper of the Message Board) has been scarce
on the ground round here .... you just want your MTV! No doubt you've been sitting all goggle
eyed, day after day, in front of the box! Hah, well we've just seen 'True Women' again! Boy, MG
just steals that whole movie. Also, although MG isn't exactly in it (though his dance moves are)
"Grey Owl" will be televised starting July 1st on "The Michael Netw ..."..I mean "The Movie
        Network"! Yippee

While MTV is alive and well and living in SA, seems 'True Woman's latest airing on TV
over in the good ol' U.S. of A. has caused quite a stir of it's own! Get on any Native Celebs
list folks, and it is abuzz with Michael's performance as Tarantula! Unless the poster
happens to be male, in which case he is lamenting Irene Bedard's untimely death! (Gotta
admit to feeling pretty miserable about that too!) Oops, SWCH is about to start
             again.....bye for now!!

Hi everyone good morning. As usual it is raining in
   sunny old U.K.
I just wondered did anybody else notice when Tokalah
got shot there did'nt seem to be any blood.I'm not
   complaining{as if I would) Ijust wondered that's all .
I really love this site.I wish I had found it a lot sooner.

           No blood please, we're British! - Sonja, Jul/23/2000 15:17:19
       Homepage: Voting Booth!!!

Hi Ruth! Sorry, couldn't resist the title of this message! *grin*
Yes, we are usually very nice here...except when we make up message titles in the vein I just did!!

As to Tokala's disappointing dissability to 'bleed' when he was shot, I guess the answer lies in
the fact that SWCH is a mushy 'romance' film, so the director decided to downplay the 'gore'.
Whatever the reason....I hardly noticed the lack of blood, as long as Michael kept LOOKING as
        good as he did!!! *grin*

Hope you keep popping in Ruth! We sometimes have a Mad Hatters tea party going here, and if
you lucky you may even get offered a cucumber sandwich and some Earl Grey(eyes) tea!

                Untitled - Ruth Brown..., Jul/23/2000 19:18:53

             Hi Sonja
I loved the title of your message. I couldn't think of
one half as good so I'm not even gonna try. I will certainly
keep popping in. Being English I just love cucumber sandwiches. I
hope you didnt think I was being unkind about SWCH.
I really love that film. I have it on video and watch it often.
Dont get excited we cant buy it in England either.
The first time I saw it I only caught the last 20 minutes
but I have never seen anything as beautiful as Michael
before and he can certainly act too!!!!
Anyway the next time it was on I made sure the video was set up.
Any way thats enough of my rambling for now.
             take care
             Ruth

                     Pats, Ex-Pats and Colonials!!! - Marnie, Jul/24/2000 09:23:10
                 Homepage: True Women

Sheesh, ....he obviously made a pressure poultice out of ...um....swamp grass and horse
manure. Yes, that'll stop bleeding every time!! That or the director was shockingly
over budget and couldn't get them to run to any more 'blood-bags'. (The makeup lady
surely kept a grasp on her expensive Christian Dior lipstick set, too!) No? oh well,
just a suggestion! *g* I guess Sonja's explanation makes the most sense ....but you'll
never get me to admit it!
                  Marnie
PS My problem with SWCH is WHY didn't he just kidnap her when he first spotted
her? Then he wouldn't have had all that trouble!! sigh!

                          RE Pats,Ex-Pats and Colonials - Ruth..., Jul/24/2000 14:01:42

I guess if he had kidnapped her when he first saw her the
the film would not have been very long.I dont think any of us
would have been very happy with that.I agree that Sonja's
explanation is probably the right one but I think yours
                       is very interesting.

                          stolen women - Ruth..., Jul/26/2000 10:31:48

                       Hi Tammy,
in answer to your question about Stolen Women.I live in
England and you cant get the video here.I believe it is
the same in the states.Thw best thing seems to be to wait until
it is shown again on t.v and video it yourself. It is a very good
movie and Michael is wonderful in it.He is agreat actor
                       and looks great too!!!!!
                       Good luck

             Hi Ruth,
One of the best times to try is on the First Friday of each month. We host an open house in
the chatroom from 11pm GMT. onward (...till our fingers go numb, as we like to remark!)
Try to drop by if you can...Nessie in Scotland pops in ...Sonja in SA (though we have to
keep the conversation exciting to keep her awake!) and assorted others in North America.
             Hope to 'see' you there!

For those wondering how to figure out their time zone in regards to Greenwich Mean
Time (GMT) ....Check out this URL

                  http://www.worldtimeserver.com/

If you go to that page and click on the UTC/GMT, which is at the top of the list of
countries, it will tell you what time it is there ...and that way you can figure out how
far in advance or behind that time you are! Hope this helps and we'll 'see' you Friday!

       Homepage: Michael In Motion

Hi Ruth, I know the server there has been having a lot of problems sending out their
confirmation notices. Some people have had to try up to six times before it worked. I have heard
that if you go in and delete your voter ID ...then re-apply then that often works ...and whatever
glitch has occurred is bypassed and an activation/confirmation notice is sent. Give it a shot
anyway. We need all the MG voters we can get!!

       Homepage: Voting Booth!!!

Thanks for the reminder to breathe, but it didn't help much!! I STILL felt my knees turn to
jello, my heart start palpitating, and my breath just about halted altogether!!
In fact, my entire body turned to ooze as I slid off the computer chair, only coming to my senses
as my chin came into painful contact with my keyboard! I propose that Marnie's latest
'animation' efforts be declared a public nuisance! Or at the very least an "illegal substance'!!!
How EVER will we get anything DONE in Greyland, if the population is swooning in front of
their computer screens all day! *grin*

                Kissing Booth? - Marnie, Aug/6/2000 07:11:19
            Homepage: Greyland

I tell ya, Sonja, that KISS has been generating so much heat that the guest book's head is
spinning! Now I know how to grab everyone's attention ...I'm seriously considering a new
page ...just for the various kisses ...called, what else, The Kissing Booth. However, the
server might just have a melt down, heehee (but it would be worth it) ooh, someone put the
kettle on, I'm so giddy at the thought I need a cup of Earl Grey(eyes) tea!

Great idea Marnie....when it's done is there any way one can make a screen saver out
of all those 'kisses'? *huge smile*!!!! I'd leave my computer on 24 hrs a day then!!

My Day is Now Complete - Gigi, Aug/10/2000 21:53:37

That mini video is wonderful...its been soooo long since
I've seen the movie (a year now I guess) that I
forgot how good the "kiss" is. Is there any way to
make the video bigger on my computer screen? I have
to get my face up real close to look at it...and then
I feel like I'm joining in on the kiss!!!! (just kidding)
        Thanks!
        Gigi

            Ruining your vision! - Marnie, Aug/11/2000 04:34:11
            Homepage: Greyland

Hi Gigi, If you made the video bigger ...sadly all you'd get would be blobby pixels! Now, I
could make it larger ...as the original images are huge ....but it would take something like
...ooh...two weeks straight, to download the darn thing ...and whilst I can think of no better
way to spend ones time (waiting for MG to pucker up) I could not, in all good conscience,
let half the world grind to a halt while the female population of the planet commandeered
the computers! Then again ...it might be worth it !!LOL
             Marnie *eg*
PS OK, I admit it, I can't exactly figure out how to leave the image big and compress the
             data!

                     Kiss - Gigi, Aug/11/2000 22:31:03

Well thanks anyways Marnie....I will just keep looking
at the one that is there. I really appreciate just
                  getting to see that one!

  GMT, or Greenwich Mean Time

  Author: Sonja , Aug/3/2000 05:24:59
  Homepage: Voting Booth!!!

For those of you who are struggling with the GMT concept:

It is the '0' degree longitudinal line that passes through the UK (United Kingdom) at Greenwich
(pronounced 'Grenitch' please!), whereby we tell time. NOT to be confused with the date line which
stretches on a zig-zag path down the middle of the Pacific Ocean somewhere!
Marnie uses GMT, rather than her own local time when giving us times for 'chat', so that it is easier
for those of us on 'foreign' soil to work out when we should log on. If we know the GMT, we can easily
work out what time it would be in our neck of the woods - just a matter of counting hours forward or
   backwards!

However, if you are still confused.....the easiest is to go to the URL Marnie gave in an earlier
   message.....OK, I'll givie it again : www.worldtimeserver.com

Good luck all, and see you Friday night (which will be early Saturday morning for moi!!)

           I dunno about that..... - Marnie, Aug/3/2000 05:56:53
       Homepage: MG Fans

Hate to disagree with you Sonja but GMT in fact stands for, (what else?) GREYLAND Mean
Time!! (At least on this board! heehee!) No, no, I lie just to befuddle you all, Sonja is correct.
Greenwich, England is where East meets West at the Greenwich Meridian (0° Longitude), World
Time is set from there...there are 24 time zones and each is measured relative to Greenwich!
...However, I shall hereafter refer to it as Greyland Mean Time as this fits in much more nicely
        with our board!!*g*

   Hello - Nefer, Aug/15/2000 03:00:03

Hello, l just found you fellow Michael Greyeyes
fans and l am happy about that.
l am trying to find everything l can about which tv
and films he's in. l emailed Lifetime to see if
they would be airing Stolen Women- they answered
that they had already done that and that they
no longer have it. l hope to see it somewhere.
l want to see Michael in lead character roles. Sure
bummed me out when he got killed off in Race Agains
t Time--l was so fired up when he appeared and l
thought it would be a 'buddy' movie- that would
        have been great.
What is he working on right now??

Michael is getting so few votes this month compared

And to think that Annie said she wouldn't be suprised

Do you suppose (last mo.)he got a lot of votes from

  Tokalah

  Author: Gigi , Aug/16/2000 22:03:17

Is this the correct name from SWCH? Does anyone know
what it means? Also, does anyone have an extra copy of
SWCH that they would like to part with?  Thanks!
   gokamura@uswest.net

for Gigi re. Tokalah - Inti, Aug/20/2000 00:58:30

Howdy Gigi, Sometime shortly after the airing of SWCH U
read someplace that the word Tokalah means fox (no pun
intended about our hero!!) Specifically, it refers to a
kit-fox which has very large ears and a black-tipped tail.
It is found in the Southwest U.S. and in Mexico. Then again,
you probably see them all the time roundabout your neck of the
        woods.
See, we all learned some (probably totally useless) trivia! Not
that I have ever seen one of these critters first-hand, mind you. About
the most wildlife I see around these parts are woodchucks,
squirrels, the occasional bunny rabbit, and a colony of very
noisy geese who honk at the most inconvenient times! There is one
lonely old blue heron who hangs out near the pond. Nearly stepped
on a harmless little old grass snake in the park the other day and just
about freaked out. But no foxes or even foxy-looking guys, sad to report.

                Fox- - Gigi, Aug/20/2000 04:27:06

I should've known it would mean something like that!
             Michael the sly fox...
Thanks for the info. I think I might have actually
seen some of these critters at our zoo here in AZ. I
haven't seen any out in the wilds though...lots of
             coyotes.

        Hi Nefer,
Actually they say they don't have all the distribution rights to market it in North America. The
SA copy covers you saw were from an ex rental copy (thankyou, Sonja!)...and the ones available
in the UK are the same....so far. We live in hope and every now and then jog CBS's memory with
the petition and ask them to revisit the idea of getting the necessary copyrights. Don't hold your
        breath, though! *g*

   Hi all,
I came across this Feature Article on "Skipped Parts". It has a few thoughts on the more
controversial aspects of the story line, including the Director's take on it,"I think one of the things
Tim (Sandlin)and I really agreed on is that the movie was going to be just as brave as his novel, just as
honest about different sexual attitudes and their effect on people."
As we all know Michael plays the part of Hank ElkRunner who Lydia (Jennifer Jason Leigh) has ..." a

                               SWCH =SHCW - Jeri, Sep/28/2000 03:19:35

                            Hi Nana,

Well Michael has certainly captured one heck of a lot
of women's hearts LOL! Unfortunately, I've found
out that the digital cable I was going to have
installed does NOT carry Lifetime. So, *sniff*, I
will be unable to view the movie. Drats!! I'll
have to hope that someday it'll be run on one of the
                            Canadian channels.

                                    Jeri - Nanah, Sep/29/2000 16:41:45

                                 Have you ever seen SWCH???
                                 nana

                                    Nana - Jeri, Sep/29/2000 20:49:06

I saw part of the movie back when it was first
aired. It certainly made an impression and I wanted
to see the entire movie, but it's never (to my
knowledge) been aired again on a Canadian TV
channel. For those of us north of the border, it's
very frustrating to know when shows we really want
to see are being aired, but because we don't get the
U.S. channels, we are unable to see them. When I
discovered that the digital cable I had ordered didn't
carry Odessy or Lifetime, I cancelled the service.

                                 ..Jeri

  Homepage: Amazon

Strangely enough, SWCH is for sale at the Amazon.com German site. It is
the English language version ...so, *sigh* no Tokalah requesting
"Waschen Sie das Pferd"! However, it is the pal version ...and can be
sent to various parts of Europe, there is a fee schedule for postage
etc. on the associated pages. They will send it to North America too,
but isn't suitable for most VCR's here (unless you have one that reads
   all formats).
   http://www.amazon.de/
Check it out all the same(just type Stolen Women in the search box)! There is a small pic.
   Marnie :)
PS Just found it at the Amazon UK site too ...and it's a darn 'site'
easier to read the info!! LOL

  Minion today

  Author: Nefer , Oct/8/2000 19:05:26

Hello! l just checked my tv guide for today's
viewing and see that Minion is on the Sci-Fi
   channel at 2:00PM Pacific time.

never seen it before - Nefer, Oct/9/2000 04:05:43

had to wait more than an hour to finally see MG and
he had a small part. Guess that's why it wasn't
on the tv list. So l went and looked at True Women
and rewound several times to see Tarantula. Can't
wait to get Crazy Horse. and tape SWCH. So where
is everybody? Is it possible to send captures on
this email system? Over on the other fan site l'm
in, the gals are sending them left an right.
l don't have it -can't even figure out how to run my
scanner l bought 2 months ago!!

                Minion - Sonja, Oct/9/2000 05:10:45
            Homepage: Voting Booth!!!

Yep Nefer, it's not Michael's most exciting role. But he's still awfully cute when he IS on
screen! I reckon she's a nut for choosing to go off with ol' Dolf, huh?!! LOL!
The Minion is listed at the OS under Michael's movie listings....yours truly got to write the
blurb for it 'cos for a while there I was the only one who had seen the movie. It hadn't
been released in the US and Canada yet! LOL! Not OFTEN we get the 'Premiers' down
             here!!

  Upon finding MG

  Author: Nefer , Oct/10/2000 23:22:44

One of the gals who is a big
fan of a major star said this when l gave her an
email address to check out Michael "Oohhhh BABY!!!
!!!! He is sooooooooooo FINE!!!!!! Wow there might
be a stand off on who l dream about tonight" and
she hasn't even seen him act
and hear that marvelous voice!! So l mention MG
to many people. and tell them to watch SWCH.

           First impressions! - Sonja, Oct/11/2000 08:31:14
       Homepage: Voting Booth!!!

Oh yes Nefer......I too was a fan of Michael's before I ever saw him act or heard his voice! That
pic of him in jeans and t-shirt, sitting hugging his knees, smiling into the camera.....*sigh*..that's
what 'did' it!! LOL! I knew all about him before I'd ever seen him take a step or mouth a word!

                Gobsmacked - Marnie, Oct/11/2000 09:17:48
            Homepage: MG Fans

Ah well, I had seen him in a couple of things before he registered ....then SWCH came
out...*thump* (sound of female hitting the floor) and I was rivetted....by his stellar
             performance!! *g* (well, it was!)
             Marnie:)

                 And then l really fell - Nefer, Oct/12/2000 02:30:29

Yes when l saw him on film and heard that voice- my
knees got weak and l fell off the chair. l guess l
may as well sit on the floor when l watch SWCH.
Now l'm getting nervous again. Today some stupid
ran into a pole and knocked power out for 3 hrs.
second time in a week. Like l said before l will
not rest until the final credits role.

First time l saw that face - Nefer, Oct/12/2000 02:14:46

The first time l saw MG was on that Cowboys and
Indians Mag.(My eyes popped out of my head and
l grabbed it. It's still like brand new. and l
blew the cover up and framed it.

He came to me in a dream - Sharon, Oct/29/2000 16:06:45

I finally found him. I have watched Stolen Women a thousand times, and everytime I
                  wished it was me.

  Email From Lifetime

  Author: Nefer , Oct/18/2000 23:06:55

l have to share. l just received this.

We are so happy to hear that you enjoyed watching
"Stolen Women, Captured Hearts" and the big hunk
Michael Greyeyes, on "Lifetime." We are very
proud to offer such excellence in programming and
love to hear from valued viewers.

l had sent them a couple of emails a while back re:
running SWCH . And l thanked them for
   showing it Monday evening.

           SWCH - Marlene, Oct/19/2000 04:29:52

I thanked them also. I recorded SWCH with the
commercials. I didn't want to take the chance of
anything going wrong with this gem! It's a wonderful
example of our Michael's talent. Also Janine Turner
and the other actress and the young Indian boy were
        just grand.
Michael and Janine's final scene was so excellent!
When the viewer feels the emotion it means you've
got two fine actors who know what they're doing.
        Regards, Marlene

                Re: SWCH - Nefer, Oct/19/2000 17:45:02

l so agree with you. l was totally swept away.
Being l was taping had to have remote in my hand
all the time to weed out commercials but l had
backup taping on my bedroom VCR w. commercials
just in case. You know l went to buy a more
expensive tape-- l thought l would check it out
to insure. Sure enough it was a bad one. So l
taped on a tried and true one l already had used.
l am so glad l checked. Like Murphy's Law eh? l
made sure old Murphy did't get me. So with
The Lost Child we'll be taping again. Keep in mind
             - check your tape if it's new.
             Nefer

                     Bad Tape - Marlene, Oct/19/2000 21:28:55

of the movie coming out in January called "Skipped

  Dream

  Author: Nefer , Oct/21/2000 16:35:18

Well l had a dream yesterday afternoon, sleeping on
the living room couch and (last thing l saw before
falling asleep was that great picture of Michael l
have on the wall) l had had a cup of tea with
an oatmeal raisin cookie! The tv was on.
So, in my dream, Michael's wife was making oatmeal
   cookies and they got into
a food fight! He was laughing and having a great
   time.
l love food fights. Used to have them quite
   a bit.
   Nefer

           What Cookies! - Marlene, Oct/21/2000 20:00:41

        Nefer,
That was some dream! You got me wondering if Nancy
makes oatmeal raisen cookies. I wish she'd make
chocolate chip and invite us over.
Was there anything else in the tea? Let me know if
you have anymore cool dreams OK?
        Best Wishes,
        Marlene

                Re: Cookies - Nefer, Oct/22/2000 17:24:18

             Marlene,
l forgot to add 'raisin' in my note.
They where fat free-not too good. l used to bake
some great oatmeal raisin cookies. but since l
divorced and went to work-- no time. Forgot how.
The tea was Earl Grey. Oh yes if l have another
             dream l'll sure share.

  Stolen Women, Captured Hearts

  Author: Peggy , Oct/21/2000 20:23:44

Hi - I am new here - but I was wondering if someone could assist me. I was wondering about the story
behind Anna and Tokalah. Was this totally fictional, or was some of the movie true? I was doing
research into Anna Morgan, but came up empty handed - could someone help me?
   Thanks, Peggy

           SWCH - Marlene, Oct/22/2000 08:18:00

        Peggy,
According to history, there was a demand made by
Colonel George A.Custer that the Cheyenne return
any white women held by them. No consideration was
given as to rather any of the women might not want
to return to the white world. Three Cheyenne chiefs
were held under the threat of being hanged if they
        were not returned.
I believe you'll find it written in true history
that the Cheyenne returned the white women held by
that particular tribe but Custer hanged the chiefs
        anyway.

I think Anna was a fictional character. If there was
a true life Tokalah among the Lakota, I believe you
could reserch it under the histories of the
        different nations of the Sioux.
But in the meantime, don't you think Tokalah and Anna
(Michael Greyeyes and Janine Turner) are very dear
        to us?
        Hope I helped a little!
        Good luck with the reserch,
        Marlene

                SWCH - Peggy, Oct/23/2000 14:28:31

Thanks, I will do some research. Yes, if this was
truly fictional - that's okay - I will still dream
             of Tokalah and Anna...WOW

             Peggy

           Some info - Marnie, Oct/22/2000 14:36:18
       Homepage: MG Fans

Stolen Women Captured Hearts ...the 'true' story?

We've had many MG Fans list members wonder how accurate SWCH is ...after all, it is supposed
to be based on a true story ...however the information we've found leads us to believe that it's
very loosely based indeed! Here is some of what we've found, cobbled together from old posts.
It's also to be found in the MG fans List shared Files.

        Marnie's info....

"Well, there I was the other day doing a spot of research for a book cover in an ancient military
base library when I came across a musty old tome called "The Indian Wars of the Plains" or
something like that ...it's a little hard to read, the original cover being long gone and someone has
hand written a replacement! I was intrigued by it ...the last time it had been taken out was in
1958!!!!! Anyhow, there I was ploughing through it (actually I was just reading a bit here and
there as the language is a bit arcane in places ....and definitely not PC ...though it is quite a
sympathetic book as it quotes from
both sides ...old logs and diaries and also "Indians" that were interviewed.) Anyhow, I'm
rambling on a bit ....but suddenly a couple of names leapt out at me ....a Miss White and a Mrs.
        Morgan....our heroines from SWCH. Yes,
it actually has a bit about their kidnap ...and eventual "rescue" by Custer! According to the
book, it was after the Washita when, "Two white girls, a Miss White, and a Mrs. Morgan, a
bride of a month, had been captured by the Indians
in raids up the Solomon and Republican valleys the previous summer. Their capture aroused great
indignation in Kansas. Governor Crawford obtained permission from the war department to
        organize the 19th Kansas
Cavalry." (Here it relates some of the rather nasty things that were purported to have happened
to Miss White and Mrs.Morgan ....I won't go into it too much here ...but suffice to say it's not as
nice as the film, the girls being severely abused on the journey back to the encampment when
they became the property of a specific captor.) Anyway, Custer went off searching but got
side-tracked by finding the remains of Major Elliot who'd been missing since the Washita ....and
so as winter was coming on, the fighting was over for the year. In the spring they set out again.
Guided by a captive Cheyenne woman, Custer located the village where the two girls were held.
"It would have been easy to ride down and give the Indians a taste of lead but that would have
ensured the demise of the prisoners."
Diplomacy took the place of force . "Custer flattered, promised and threatened for tedious
        days."
Then he took the step of seizing three Cheyenne warriors as hostages for the safety of the girls.
To make it a bit more palatable he sent presents and promised the release of the warriors on the
surrender of the captives. The following day the girls were sent to him, both mounted on a single
pony. No more is mentioned of this incident except a footnote that Miss White lived to an old
age. She afterward married and reared a family ....but sadly Mrs. Morgan died a few years
        after her release from captivity.

Well, I dunno about you ....but I prefer the CBS version!!!
        Marnie
PS I quoted and paraphrased and changed the wording a bit but that's pretty much what it says
        in the book ..."

Subsequently I discovered another book ....

"I was back at the military library ...and would you believe I found another book that mentioned
Miss White and Mrs Morgan. This one had a much lengthier description ....but, man, it was even
harder to read and not nearly as balanced as the other one. The book is made up of various
writings from "frontiersmen" and Cavalry officers ...so you can imagine how biased it is. Plus, the
writing is so florid and grandiose (not to mention self-serving) it rather jangles the nerves.
However, I did find the description really interesting ...especially that Mrs. Morgan's brother,
Mr Brewster, did accompany the cavalry to help find her but he was only about 22 ...Mrs.
Morgan being 19 ...and that the two girls didn't know each other prior to their capture. Mrs.
Morgan's husband was badly injured and left crippled in the original raid which is why he didn't
accompany the search and the two girls did, in fact, briefly manage to escape but were chased
and caught ("I'll run you till you drop" Sonja?) and then split up. This
part was very long and encompassed a lot more than the actual search for the two and it was
written in the first person and why did the writer keep receiving orders addressed to "General"
I kept asking myself? You got it, this section was written by Custer!! Took me a while to figure
it out as his name wasn't mentioned as author. I had heard he was a bit of a self promoter ...and
judging from this book he certainly was!"

Later I mentioned that in one passage I read there was someone who struck me as being similar
to "Tokalah" this generated some interest so I then quoted the relevant section.....

"The passage I thought was most apropos was when he was actually deciding to hold some of the
"Chief's "hostage .....for the return of Miss White and Mrs. Morgan and other guarantees. It's
long ..and there is a point when Custer is worried he's going to throw up whilst smoking the
"pipe" ...but anyway, I could just picture one of them as "Tokalah" .....

        Custer writes....
"...Even at this date I recall no more exciting experience with Indians than the occasion I now
write. Near me stood a tall, gray haired chief, who, while entreating his people to be discreet,
kept his cocked revolver ready in his hand for use, should the emergency demand it. Near him
stood another, a most powerful and forbidding warrior, who was without firearms, but who was
armed with a bow, already strung, and a quiver full of iron-pointed arrows. His coolness during
the scene of danger and excitement was often the subject of remark afterward between the
officers whose attention had been drawn to him. He stood apparently unaffected by the
excitement about him,but not unmindful of the surrounding danger. Holding his bow in one hand,
with the other he continued to draw from his quiver arrow after arrow. Each one he would
examine coolly as if he expected to engage in target practise. First he would cast his eye along
the shaft of the arrow, to see if it was perfectly straight and true, then he would with
thumb and finger gently feel the point and edge of the barbed head, returning to the quiver each
one whose condition did not satisfy him. In this manner he continued until he had selected
perhaps half a dozen arrows, with which he seemed satisfied, and which he retained in his hand,
while his quick eye did not permit a single incident about him to escape unnoticed. The noise of
the voices and the excitement increased until a movement began on the part of the Indians who
were mounted, principally the young men and boys. If the latter could be allowed to escape and
the chiefs be retained, the desired object would be gained. Suddenly a rush was made. But for
the fact that my men had been ordered not to fire, the attempt of the Indians would not have
been successful. I, as well as the other officers near me called upon the men not to fire. The
result was that all but four broke through the lines and made their escape. The four detained,
however, were those desired, being chiefs and warriors of prominence......"

So which one do you think I meant ...the "gray haired chief" or the one coolly picking out his
arrows, psyching them out? ...I won't tell you what happened to him, it'd just depress you!"

So there you go ...this is what I found out ...plus I also just discovered that "Miss White" lived
to a ripe old age and died in 1938 ....it doesn't seem that long ago, really!

Looking forward to hearing what the book "Pioneer Women" has to say on this subject....let's
hope it's happier than some of the stuff I found!
        Marnie

Angela, our Lady of the Beasts found some more references to the "kidnap" in a book called
"Pioneer Women" this is the information she found.

        Angela's info....

"Anna and the King of Hearts:The True Story"

I am going to summarize the information that I got from the book "PioneerWomen". First, some
        information
        about the book:

Title: Pioneer Women Voices From the Kansas Frontier
        Author: Joanna L. Stratton
        Publisher: Simon & Schuster

The story appears in Part Two, Chapter Six, pg 123-126.
The author obtained the information from "Emily Haines Harrison,
' Reminiscences of Early Days in Ottawa County,'"Kansas Historical Society.
        Vol.10(1907-8),pp.627-28.
        (Whew!)

I am summarizing and paraphrasing in a linear list form for clarity.

        1. Sarah and Anna were captured separately, a month apart, by two different groups of warriors
        who took them to
the same village. Sarah was 17 years old, one of 7 children. Anna is described as a beautiful
        young woman,
with, "...yellow hair, blue eyes and a fair complexion". She had been married exactly one month.

        2. At the village they were forced to do menial chores. They were obedient but immediately
        began to set aside dried
buffalo meat so they would be ready to escape whenever they had a chance. The chance came
        during a big
        pow-wow.

        3. They almost made it to Fort Dodge when they were recaptured, whipped, tied to ponies and
        taken back. Now
they had no privileges whatever and settled to a life of hard work.

        4. An Indian chief (who is not named) proposed to Anna and she accepted hoping to improve her
        lot. It worked. In
her words she states that, "... my Indian husband would come in from the warpath bringing many
        things he thought
        would please me”.

        5. Now the other women had to wait on her and bring her firewood. All her husband expected of
        her was for her to
tend his horse when he came in. He would throw the lariat to her and she would “picket out” the
        horse.
        (WASH THE HORSE, ANNA?”)

        6. In her words Anna began, “...to think much of him for his kindness to me.”

        7. One day she was brought the news that there were two white men in the camp. She did not
        care to see them.
Then her own brother walked into the tent.

        8. Anna and Sarah were exchanged for the lives of five chiefs scheduled for hanging.

        9. After their return, Sarah made money by telling her story and selling her photograph. Anna
        did not.

        10. Anna is described as melancholy and unable to forget her captivity. A few months after she
        returned home, she
gave birth to a son, by her Indian husband. The child died at age two.

        11. An acquaintance reported that, “...her mind gradually failed and she died in an asylum.”

        12. Anna is quoted as having said, : “After I came back, the road seemed rough, and I often
        wished they had never
        found me.”

Joanna Stratton writes that Custer wrote about this incident in “My Life on the Plains”and that
        he wrote about the
story in a political way. Her opinion is that the personal truth of the capture was very complex.

        The End

PS The book has some humorous, some frightening, and many touching and often sad anecdotes of
        the
relationships of the pioneer women with the Native people. If not available at your library you
        might find it at a
college library under History/Women’s Studies which is its classification . Enjoy!

Hope everyone isn't too disillusioned ...after all, we all need a little "happily ever after" in our
        lives!

                WOW - Peggy, Oct/23/2000 14:37:27

             Marnie,
Thanks so much - this is some good stuff. You're
right - I will hold on to my thoughts that CBS
portrayed!!!! I can't wait to see the movie again,
I missed some of the movie :-(

                OOOPS!--- - Marlene, Oct/24/2000 04:25:09

             Marnie,
I stand corrected! You sure did a great research.
It was enteresting to learn there really was an Anna
and Sarah. I've heard of the book but never read it.
I'd better plan to do it real soon. It was sad to
learn about Anna's death, so young. And her two year
old son-wonder what his short history was!
Anna and her son's fate seems so similar to Cynthia
Ann Parker, the mother of Quanah Parker, the
             Comanche leader in Texas.
Now thanks to your research,I'd say SWCH was really
close to real life material except the end of the
picture. But like it's already been said, we all
need a happy ending once in a while. And what a
great ending it was! Now I think I'm right on this.
             Regards,Marlene

  "Reservation Blues"

  Author: Nefer , Oct/22/2000 17:44:14

Just finished reading Rez Blues by Sherman Alexie.
   Anyone read it?
Remember the movie Smoke Signal where MG played
Junior? (Very short part) Anyway the character,
plus Victor and Thomas and Lester-Falls-Apart are
   also in this book.
But it was so sad what happened to Junior. Wonder
if it will ever be movie?!

           Michael in"Smoke Signals" - Marlene, Oct/30/2000 07:41:34

        Nefer,
Before I get off the web---What happened to Junior
of"Smoke Signals" in the book"Rez Blues"? Was it
another demise for Michael's character like "Johnny
in "Race Against Time" or "Imala" in "Magnificent
Seven"? If they do make a movie from Sherman Alexie
book, and Michael again plays "Junior" will we see
        Michael again bitting the dust?

About MG biting the dust - Nefer, Oct/30/2000 18:01:24

l am sorry to say yes. He goes up a water tower
and shoots himself. l wonder if this movie will
ever be tho' although from what l read they were in
pre-production. Maybe it's held up because Adam
Beach is busy with Windtalkers til Feb. (l did
not realize who Junior was in the book until l
saw the credits from Smoke Signal)Wonder if
Michael will even be in it. Michael and Adam
are very busy guys, with movie deals. Yeah!!!
Oh l was so mad when he got killed in Race
Against Time--that could have been great if they
teamed together to fight those creeps-. The way
Michael fights (Dance Me Outside)tossing those
cops around.)TNT really screwed up- l mean after
the great job he did in Crazy Horse. Where were
             their brains?

           Mag 7 - Nefer, Oct/29/2000 21:21:39

l've seen Magificent Seven in the video store.
l already taped it tho' Still impatiently
waiting for my Big Bear and Crazy Horse. takes
4 to 6 weeks. It's time we got some Canadian
        tv here.

                Canadian TV/Michael's Eyes - Marlene, Oct/30/2000 07:03:20

I agree with you about Canadian Broadcasts. I wonder
how much of Michael's work we're missing down here
in the states! I think I'll order "Big Bear tonight.
Part of "Crazy Horse" was filmed on Forest Service
land here in South Dakota, so since I work for the
Buffalo Gap Nat. Grasslands, I got an extra special
video and picture of the cast. I am so proud that
"Crazy Horse" was filmed in my neck of the woods.
Of course the fact that Michael was here working on
the movie was great. I wish those times were now.
I've bought "Mag Seven" and "True Women" and"Team
Cherokee" But I just keep looking at my recorded
tape of "Stolen Women Captured Hearts" over and over
I want to watch Michael's eyes again so I'll get off
the web site and go watch SWCH tonight.

                     RE: Michael's eyes - Nefer, Oct/30/2000 18:15:30

Lucky you to get the goodies from Crazy Horse.
Oh l can't wait to get to SWCH sometime today.
"Those eyes" is right. Watched Dance Me Outside
last Nite. Getting back to Crazy Horse, l loved
the way he rode the horse taking aim with the
buffalo herd running top speed. From the email
in FAQs he sure loved doing that. Would love that
scene as a picture. l better go- l could talk about
Michael and his films all day.
                  Nefer

   Hi all,
As some of you may or may not know, on APTN there is a chat show hosted by Evan Adams (Smoke
Signals) called Buffalo Tracks which showcases mostly Aboriginal talent ...actors, artists, dancers,
entertainers, etc. Now,interestingly enough on this Friday's show Evan invited everyone to visit the
new Buffalo Tracks website ...he'd love viewer feed back ...and suggestions for people we'd like to see
interviewed!! Hmm, now whom could we suggest? I, and a few others at the MG Fans list, have zipped
over there and offered up MG's name, so anyone else who'd care to add their voices trip on over to
   http://www.buffalotracks.com/
(or click on the link above)
   and offer up your suggestion.
   Thanks,
   Marnie:)
