Novena in Honor of Saint Rita of Cascia
Ninth and Final Day of the Novena
Thy
deep humility, O Saint Rita, and the eminent virtues, which from
childhood till death thou soughtest to conceal from the world,
keeping thyself hidden with Christ in God, were the cause of the
elevation to the exalted glory thou now enjoyest in heaven. But
thy Loving Jesus, whose humility thou didst perfectly imitate,
desired to glorify thee also on earth, for, scarcely had thy
beautiful soul entered Paradise, than many miracles were wrought
through thy intercession, while simultaneously, from far and
near, people proclaimed thee a Saint, and a Saint thou hast been
declared, by the voice of the Supreme Pastor of the Church. And
now, devotion to thee is spread throughout the world, and above
all the saints dost thou enjoy the privilege of being called the
"Saint of the Impossible" and "Advocate of most
hopeless cases." Ah, glorious Saint Rita! What case more
desperate than ours, vile creatures that we are, blinded by
pride, the sin most detested by God and thee? O Saint Rita,
obtain for us from God the inestimable favor of knowing we have
nothing to be proud of, and that without Him we are nothing and
can do nothing. Oh, preserve us by thy powerful intercession from
the eternal ruin into which the proud and rebellious angels fell,
that we may be permitted one day to share the glory which thou,
most humble Saint, dost enjoy, a glory granted only to the humble.

Supplication to Saint Rita
Holy Patroness of those in need, Saint Rita, whose pleadings
before thy Divine Lord are irresistible, who for thy lavishness
in granting favors has been called the "Advocate of the
Helpless," and even of the Impossible, Saint Rita, so
humble, so pure, so mortified, so patient and of such
compassionate love for thy Crucified Jesus, that thou canst
obtain from Him anything thou dost ask, on account of which, all
have confidently have recourse to thee in the hope of comfort or
relief; be propitious to thy suppliants and show thy power with
God in their behalf; be lavish of thy favors now as thou hast
been in so many wonderful cases for the greater glory of God, the
spreading of thy devotion and the consolation of those who trust
in thee. We promise, if our petition be granted, to glorify thee
by making known thy favor, and to bless thee and sing thy praises
forever. Relying then on thy merits and power before the Sacred
Heart of Jesus, we ask of thee: (here mention your request)

By the singular merits of thy childhood,
By thy perfect union with the Divine Will,
By the consolation thou didst experience at the conversion of your husband,
By the anguish that filled thy heart at the murder of thy husband,
By the sacrifice of thy children, rather than see them grievously offend God,
By the miraculous entrance into the convent,
By the severe penance and three times daily bloody scourgings,
By thy suffering from the wound received from the thorn of thy Crucified Saviour,
By the divine love which consumed thy heart,
By the remarkable devotion to the Blessed Sacrament, on which alone thou didst subsist for four years,
By the happiness with which thou didst part from the trials to join thy Divine Spouse,
By the perfect example thou didst give to the people of every state of life.
Pray for
us, Saint Rita, that we may be made worthy of the Promises of
Christ.
