Novena In Honor of Saint Rita Cascia
Eighth
Day
To give
still greater lustre to thy sanctity, O Saint Rita! thy beloved
Jesus added to thy painful wound a malady that for four years
nailed thee to thy hard bed till death. What a splendid example
thou hast left us of perfect resignation to the Divine Will, and
invincible patience in sufferings. Thy only regret, the regret of
a Saint, was in being a burden to thy companions. What calmness
and peace shone in thy face as if thou hast a foretaste of
Paradise. Who can picture the joy that overwhelmed thee on
hearing Jesus and Mary announce the approaching deliverance from
the painful prison of thy body to a heavenly home. With a kiss
and a sigh to thy Crucified Love, thy beautiful and happy soul
took its flight to rest in His bosom forever. How shall it be
with us miserable sinners at the hour of death? With us who
cannot suffer patiently for our sins, a sickness of only a few
days? Oh! Saint Rita, look upon our misery; ask thy Jesus to give
us perfect resignation and patience in our last illness, and a
happy death in His embrace, that, united to thee, we may bless
our Jesus forever. (Recite now, Our Father..., Hail Mary...,
Glory be to the Father...)
Supplication to Saint Rita
Holy
Patroness of those in need, Saint Rita, whose pleadings before
thy Divine Lord are irresistible, who for thy lavishness in
granting favors has been called the "Advocate of the
Helpless," and even of the Impossible, Saint Rita, so
humble, so pure, so mortified, so patient and of such
compassionate love for thy Crucified Jesus, that thou canst
obtain from Him anything thou dost ask, on account of which, all
have confidently have recourse to thee in the hope of comfort or
relief; be propitious to thy suppliants and show thy power with
God in their behalf; be lavish of thy favors now as thou hast
been in so many wonderful cases for the greater glory of God, the
spreading of thy devotion and the consolation of those who trust
in thee. We promise, if our petition be granted, to glorify thee
by making known thy favor, and to bless thee and sing thy praises
forever. Relying then on thy merits and power before the Sacred
Heart of Jesus, we ask of thee: (Here mention your request)

By the singular merits of thy childhood,
By thy perfect union with the Divine Will,
By the heroic suffering during thy married life,
By the consolation thou didst experience at the conversion of your husband,
By the anguish that filled thy heart at the murder of thy husband,
By the sacrifice of thy children, rather than see them grievously offend God,
By the miraculous entrance into the convent,
By the severe penance and three times daily bloody scourgings,
By thy suffering from the wound received from the thorn received from the thorn of thy Crucified Saviour,
By the divine love which consumed thy heart,
By the remarkable devotion to the Blessed Sacrament, on which alone thou didst subsist for years,
By the happiness with which thou didst part from the trials to join thy Divine Spouse,
By the perfect example thou didst give to people of every state of life.
Pray for
us, Saint Rita, that we may be made worthy of the Promises of
Christ.
