Seventh Day
O, Saint Rita! burning
to participate in the sufferings of Christ's Passion,
behold Him granting thy prayer,
after a sermon heard by thee on the subject,
preached by Saint James della
Marca.
So inflamed wast thou that
on returning to thy cell thou didst weep
tender tears of compassion
for thy Crucified Love, who,
to appease thy ardent zeal,
pierced thy forehead with a thorn from His own Crown,
accompanied by such intense
pain as to cause thee to swoon.
What unspeakable delight,
what joy, O Saint Rita,
to be thus favored by Jesus,
and in a measure conformed to Him;
to become repulsive and annoying
to thy companions
by the vermin and disagreeable
odor caused by the wound!
Yet for fifteen years didst
thou rejoice in it,
returning thanks to thy Divine
Spouse, as for a signal favor.
Ah, miserable creatures we,
who, far from asking God to send us tribulations,
become sad if we are punished
in our bodies for our sins!
O Saint Rita, obtain for
us from Jesus,
the grace to patiently bear
sickness and all temporal ills He may send us,
that having escaped eternal
ills, we may glorify Him forever in Paradise.
(Recite now, Our Father...,
Hail Mary..., Glory be to the Father...)
Supplication to Saint Rita
Holy Patroness of those in
need, Saint Rita, whose
pleadings before thy Divine
Lord are irresistible,
who for thy lavishness
in granting favors has been called the
"Advocate of the Helpless,"
and even of the Impossible,
Saint Rita, so humble, so
pure, so mortified, so patient
and of such compassionate
love for thy Crucified Jesus,
that thou canst obtain from
Him anythings thou dost ask,
on account of which, all
have confidently have recourse to
thee in the hope of
comfort or relief; be propitious to thy
supplicants and show thy
power with God in their
behalf; be lavish of
thy favors now as thou hast been in so
many wonderful cases for
the greater glory of God, the
spreading of thy devotion
and the consolation of those
who trust in thee. We promise,
if our petition be
granted, to glorify thee
by making known thy favore,
and to bless thee and sing
thy praises forever.
Relying then on thy
merits and power
before the Sacred Heart of
Jesus, we ask of thee:
(Here mention your request)
Obtain My Request for Me
To each of the following,
respond with,
"Obtain My Request For Me"
By the singular merits of thy childhood,
By thy perfect union with the Divine Will,
By the heroic suffering during thy married life,
By the consolation thou didst experience at the conversion of your husband,
By the sacrifice of thy children, rather than see them grievously offend God,
By the miraculous entrance into the convent,
By the severe penance and three times daily bloody scourgings,
By thy suffering from the wound received from the thorn of thy Crucified Saviour,
By the divine love which consumed thy heart,
By the remarkable devotion to the Blessed Sacrament, on which alone thou didst subsist for four years,
By the happiness with which thou didst part from the trials to join thy Divine Spouse,
By the perfect example thou didst give to the people of every state of life.
Pray for us, Saint Rita, that
we may be made worthy of the Promises of Christ.
