Novena to Saint Rita of Cascia
Second Day
God has
chosen thee, O Saint Rita, as the model of virgins,
wives, widows, and nuns;
therefore He permitted thee
to fill all these states of life.
And O! what a superb example
thou didst present to wives,
especially in the
years thou wert obliged to live with a husband
whose character was the
reverse of thy own!
Reproaches, insults,
blows, thou didst bear all, but, by thy sweetness thou
didst succeed in subjugating
and rendering him humble and mild.
Oh! that many wives may
learn from
thee the lovely art of
suffering in silence, husbands!
of subduing and softening
the hearts of their irritable
May we all learn to live
with our relatives and neighbors
according to the holy laws
of
peace and Christian charity.
May the
unkindness and discord that rage in so many families,
and very often reduce them
to a sad
and miserable condition,
cease to exist.
I beg of thee especially, O
Saint Rita!
to obtain for me
and others, from God, the
Giver of all good gifts,
thy constant love of sweet
peace and concord;
in the Kingdom of
everlasting peace.

Supplication to Saint Rita
Holy
Patroness of those in need, Saint Rita,
whose pleadings before thy
Divine Lord are irresistible,
who for thy lavishness in
granting favors has been called the "Advocate of the
Helpless,"
and even of the Impossible,
Saint Rita, so humble,
so pure, so mortified,
so patient and of such
compassionate
love for thy Crucified
Jesus,
that thou canst obtain from
Him anything thou dost ask,
on account of which,
all have confidently
have recourse to thee in the hope of comfort or relief;
be propitious to thy
suppliants and show thy power with God in their behalf;
be lavish of thy
favors now as thou hast
been in so many wonderful
cases for the greater glory of God,
the spreading of thy
devotion and the
consolation of those who
trust in thee.
We promise, if our petition
be granted, to glorify thee by
making known thy favor, and
to bless thee and sing thy praises forever.
Relying then on thy merits
and power before the Sacred
Heart of Jesus, we ask of thee:

By the
singular merits of thy childhood,
By thy perfect union with
the Divine Will,
By the heroic suffering
during thy married life,
By the consolation thou
didst experience at the conversion of your husband,
By the anguish that filled
thy heart at the murder of thy husband,
By the sacrifice of thy
children, rather than see them grievously offend God,
By the miraculous entrance
into the convent,
By the severe penance and
three times daily bloody scourgings,
By thy suffering from the
wound received from the thorn of thy Crucified Saviour,
By the divine love which
consumed thy heart,
By the remarkable devotion
to the Blessed Sacrament, on which alone thou didst subsist for
four years,
By the happiness with which
thou didst part from the trials to join thy Divine Spouse,
By the perfect example thou
didst give to the people of every state of life.
Pray for us, Saint Rita,
that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
