you became a Franciscan
with the hope of shedding your blood for Christ.
In God's plan for you,
your thirst for martyrdom was never to be satisfied.
Saint Anthony, Martyr of Desire,
pray that I may become less afraid to stand up
and be counted as a follower of the Lord Jesus.

Dear Saint Anthony,
you are the patron of the poor
and the helper of all who seek lost articles.
Help me find the object I have lost
so that I will be able to make better use of time
I will gain for God's greater honor and glory.
Grant your gracious aid to all people
who seek what they have lost,
especially those who seek to regain God's grace.

Prayer For An Understanding Heart

Dear Saint Anthony,
I salute you as my powerful patron before God.
You know how much we yearn for happiness,
and how often and how stubbornly we seek it
in the wrong places.
Please ask Our Lord for us the grace
He gave so abundantly to you.
Thus, we may not vainly seek happiness in God's creatures,
but only in God, Himself,
the source of all good.
Beg for us,
powerful Saint Anthony,
the grace of an understanding heart.
Then, we shall see the image of God
in all those we meet and in every creature.
Let our hearts always be fixed on the true source of our joy,
Jesus Christ, Our Lord.
Amen.
