    Chop Welcome!

Welcome to Lexi Klein's Art Theatre. Lexi's interests as a painter and photographer are dialogues on contemporary social, political, environmental, sexual and other issues. His work (see Gallery) expresses the human drama of contemporary life.

    Terminus

    "Terminus" by Lexi Klein,
    Fluor Daniels Commerce Building
    Irvine, CA

His observations of new challenges to the eternal human condition continuously motivate his creativity.

Ironically, to tackle contemporary issues, Lexi reaches into the past, basing his early paintings on Japanese Ukiyo-e or woodblock prints. His newest work has taken another direction, melding Japanese print, painting traditions and photography with western aesthetics, and computer technologies, inspired by religious and aesthetic themes from the Renaissance which he updates as if continuing a cross-epoch conversation.

    All Gods Children

"All Gods Children" by Lexi Klein,
    United Sciences Exposition
    Los Angeles

Lexi has painted about many issues from censorship to air and water pollution, toxic shock syndrome, American culture invading the world, international tourism and culture clash to current series on todays revolutionary mass media and internet culture (often as seen through the eyes of an up-to-date Adam and Eve). His works are marked by humor, an exquisite sensuality of line, form and color, astute commentary, topicality, and a high level of aesthetics.

Bosnia 6 About the Subject Matter. Lexi writes: "The social and cultural dramas of today's society motivate me to create paintings. My earlier work focused on my life experiences in the Americas and Japan. More recently I have been inspired to create paintings based on worldwide issues such as conflict, religion, sexuality, nudity, erotica, media, religion, privacy, confession, politics, race, violence, war, and environmental issues, among other things.

My works are sometimes humorous or lighthearted, and other times very intense. In this photograph, one can find great beauty, even in Bosnia, during the height of the conflict. The saving grace is always one of aesthetic concern--finding the beauty that transcends the issues.

Think of my paintings and photographs as individual scenes from a drama, play or movie. If they were movies, they might be rated everywhere from G or PG, to R or X. Like going to a play, you'll have to decide for yourself if you want to see what is showing. I hope with that in mind, that you will enjoy my art exhibition. I truly hope you enjoy yourself.

Thanks for visiting my works, you are welcome anytime!
