As you pick your way through the branches, you come to a small platform built of planks in a fork of the trunk. There is just enough room on the platform to sit and dangle your legs over the edge. A glance through the foliage gives you a bird's-eye view of the town square. You also see a raven that is flying around and a tattered squirrel's nest tucked between two sturdy branches. [Catacombs, Muddy Bend]
Dirt and rock, held together by stout, ancient tree roots, are all that is left of the walls here. An old cave-in reduced the original tunnel to a mass of jumbled rubble beneath you. Mud and loose stones line the sides of the passage, and the earthen roof is just high enough for you to stand up. A thin trickle of glassy water flows eastward and down the rubble pile, from a large chamber just to the north. [Catacombs, Twisting Tunnels]
A cave-in some time in the distant past must have sealed off the western extension of the manmade tunnel here. Pristinely clear water cascades in waves over the heap of rubble left in the wake of the collapse, forming a limpid pool at its base. Overflow from the pool runs off eastward down the center of the floor along a time-worn channel. Also in the room: Lord Xodor

[Catacombs, Twisting Tunnels]
You try and make sense out of the twisting and turning mess of tunnels here, but more openings only add to your dilemma. Gaps in the walls everywhere confound you, including one in the floor that serves to drain off some of the running water. Two of the largest tunnels branch off from the main passage at this juncture. One leads sharply upward and southwest; another due south. The lilting sound of water splashing onto rock reaches your ears from the west. You also see a handaxe. [Catacombs, Twisting Tunnels]
This section of the tunnels is almost perfectly elliptical and leads generally in an east-west direction. It seems to have been formed by rapidly moving water eons ago, but now it is almost dry as time and use have forced the water table down deeper. A small trickle of clear water still travels along the center of the tunnel eastward. Also in the room: the body of Lord Thorolf who is lying down, Quadmole

[Catacombs, Underground Lake]
Fresh, clear water pours out of a smooth, elliptical passage to the west and gently cascades into a lake here. About the only sound you can hear is the soft chuckling of the water as it rolls through small stones that have been rounded with time. To the north and east, the shore of the lake becomes muddy and disappears into darkness. Also in the room: Lord Calcult, Deriex, Loyalo, Jarves, Kalantia

[Catacombs, Underground Lake]
Ripples from a small underground lake gently lap at the black, muddy shore in this cavernous chamber. Occasionally, soft splashes and gurgles resound, seeming to originate to the northwest. The shore curves north and west from here, punctuated by tracks of humans and animals and by a slimy trail whose maker you would rather not come face to face with. You also see a tangle of roots. [Catacombs, East-West Tunnel]
This smallish, circular chamber seems to mark the beginning of a series of branching tunnels. To the east, a long passage recedes into the murk, while a narrower one leads southwest. Sepulchers line the walls, broken into at random intervals. A tangle of roots on the northwest side of the chamber conceals the source of a tiny streamlet. A channel in the floor of the tunnel cradles the trickling water. You also see a rusted iron door. Also in the room: Bolvo, the body of Lord Thorolf who is lying down, Quadmole

The tunnel continues here with little noticeable change. Streaks of yellow and orange deposits smear the walls in places where the aquiferous stone has been cut through. Droplets from that stone layer trickle down the walls to join the small flow in the center of the room. Most of the crypts in this section have been picked clean by grave robbers long ago. Dark openings in the walls remind you of your own fragile mortality as you try to peer inside them. Most are empty, but others contain old bones and tattered rags, evidence of plundering. A narrow ribbon of water flows gently eastward along the tunnel floor. You also see a giant rat which appears dead and an augmented breastplate. A tunnel carved through glistening black rock stretches as far as the dim light allows you to see, to the east and west. Hundreds of cramped, oblong tombs open out of the walls wherever space permits. Most have remained sealed but others have collapsed or been pillaged over time. A thin rivulet of water runs east down the center of the floor. Also in the room: Jeenee, Verupinus

This suffocatingly close room is dark and foul-smelling. Murky light filters in through a clawed-out hole in the crumbling brick wall on one side of the chamber. The stone floor is slimy and treacherous underfoot. Although you find it difficult to see well enough to progress unaided, you hesitate to feel your way along the clammy, lichen-covered walls. Water seeps from the ceiling with a constant dripping sound that echoes around you. Disturbing grunts and squeals emanate from a particularly dark corner of the room. Several niches in the stone walls of this small, musty chamber hold heaps of dust, tarnished trinkets and shreds of cloth. The sunken, dried face of a crumpled corpse in the center of the room still wears an expression of shock and horror. Small, furry creatures dart in and out of a jagged opening, where some stones have been removed, in the far wall. As it dawns on you that they cannot be the source of the loud, sinister scraping noises coming from the east, a chill runs down your spine. You also see a giant rat which appears dead. You have come to a dead end off of Lyon Way. The broken bottles, discarded rubbish, and uneasy feeling that pervade this dank, ill-lit cul-de-sac give you strong incentive to retreat north back to the main lane as hastily as possible. A pile of crates is stacked against the back wall of the alley. You also see a scratched steel box, a filthy flask of oil, a filthy flask of oil and some light leather. Here Lyon Way runs southeast into Riverwind Street, serving as a conduit for passage between the river and the bazaar and shops. Directly south, you see a dimly lit cul-de-sac. The two- and three-story homes of some of Wehnimer's Landing's more humble citizens are situated at this bend in Lyon Way. Whitewash has been applied to most of the wooden structures, imparting a fresh and clean appearance. You notice, however, that soot from somewhere nearby is in the process of covering them, in time making them as drab as the poorer shanties by the riverfront. The usual rhythm of movement through the street to the east and west is accentuated by a constant loud clanging coming from the north. You can see smoke rising from a building in that direction. Many of the dwellings that line this section of road have shutters closed or curtains drawn to keep out the noise and dust raised by the constant flow of traffic along the street. The uproar from the activities of the merchants, tradesmen and hawkers in the shops to your west seems muted. The cracked pavement, scattered cobblestones, and dirt drainage ditches along the side of the road indicate that this street forms a not-so-gradual transition between the bustling avenues of the main bazaar and the less frequented, humbler and more unsavory sections of the town. Thorolf just hugged Quip.
Thorolf struggles to stand, but fails.
Thorolf stands up.
You exclaim, "With a savage cry, Thorolf suddenly leaps out of the foliage above,and tumbles through the air before you!"
You exclaim, "Then Thorolf flies by you, a look of sheer terror on him face as hefalls recklessly into the well!"
You chuckle.
Thorolf bites you! Of all the nerve!
Thorolf winks.
Thorolf joins your group.

You stand cattycorner to the entrance to Tykel's Arms, Wehnimer's most elite weaponsmith. All manner of well-heeled clientele pass by, headed to the fashionable shops surrounding the town square, which opens before you to your west and south. Casting your gaze towards the heart of the square, you see the gaily colored canvas tents and stalls that mark the main bazaar. Solid, multistoried wooden buildings frame the square. The traffic to and from the square to the west, has slowed and clogged the street here, making it difficult to see the buildings on the north and south side. Keenly aware of the insistent press of the crowd, you keep your wits about you and you guard your valuables closely. The large, barn-like structure before you is the city stable. Through a ground-floor window, you can peer into the dark interior and see the rows of stalls. The pavement just outside is strewn with straw and the usual debris that merits a careful step along this part of the road. To the west is the main square and its cobblestoned bazaar, where furious trading takes place on a daily basis. Also here: Delaric

You move on, your footsteps resounding on the cobbled pavement as you pass between the rows of two-story wooden houses that flank the lane. The street seems a bit less congested as townsfolk and wayfarers disperse throughout the Landing. You also see an engraved brass trunk.

You watch as flatbed wagons carrying loads of wood or metal ores lumber slowly trying to avoid a large pothole in the road. A nondescript building, with a prominent sign in the shape of a key above its black door, is set back slightly from the street. You also see an old man, a badly damaged oak chest, a badly damaged iron trunk and the Engraver's Shop with a small elegant sign on it.

This intersection links the bazaar routes with those bisecting and encircling the Landing. A few ruddyfaced sailors, loudmouthed dockworkers, and off-duty soldiers linger along the wall of a tavern, which is set back from the side of the road up a slight incline. A shaky wooden stairway, the bane of many an overimbiber's existence, leads up to the tavern door. Obvious paths: north, south, west.

[Helga's Tavern, Barroom]
You elbow your way into one of the open spaces along the bar. The countertop of oft-polished modwir wood bears pits and stains from years of use. Helga, the ancient, obese proprietor, is stationed behind the bar, absentmindedly wiping a glass with a dirty towel. Dressed in a drab brown smock, she seems as permanent a fixture here as the dark-toned panelling and the dingy counter. A small fireplace in one corner burns feebly, adding little light or warmth to the room. You also see some manna bread, a town guard, a dark doorway that glows slightly, a set of swinging doors that serve as the only exit and a large sign.
