Step 1
Cast on 30 sts on one larger double point needle. With yarn tail
on left side, slip the stitches onto 2 needles as follows: 1 sts
on 1st needle, 2nd sts on 2nd needle, 3rd sts on 1st needle, 4th
sts on 2nd needle. You will end up with 15 sts on each needle-
see picture 1
---------------------------------------------------------------
|
Step 2
Turn needles so that the yarn tails are on the left side. With
darning needle slip stitches from upper needles onto a piece of
spare yarn - see picture 2
--------------------------------------------------------------
|
Step 3
K 14, slip last stitch onto right hand needle (picture 3),
pull yarn to the left (picture 4) around the last stitch
(picture 5) and slip this stitch back onto left hand needle,
pull yarn to the back again and turn - YOU WRAPPED A STITCH!

------------------------------------------------------------
|
Step 4
You already have one stitch on the right hand needle (picture
6); the stitch you just wrapped. P 13, slip last stitch onto
right hand needle, pull yarn to the left (picture 7) around
the last stitch and slip this stitch back onto left hand needle
(picture 8), turn - YOU WRAPPED THE SECOND STITCH!

--------------------------------------------------------
|
Step 5
You just learned how to wrap stitches at the end of each row.
You'll be doing this until the toe is finished. It gets easier
every time you wrap a stitch and by the end of this sock you'll
be doing it while you sleep!
K 12, wrap next st and turn.
P 11, wrap next st and turn.
K 10, wrap next st and turn.
P 9, wrap next st and turn.
K 8, wrap next st and turn.
P 7, wrap next st and turn.
Now you have 4 wrapped stitches on each side of each row and
7 stitches on the needle (picture 9). You're half-way
through the toe! GOOD JOB!!!
------------------------------------------------------------
|
Step 6
K 7, the next st is a wrapped stitch, wrap this stitch and turn.
P 7, the next st is a wrapped stitch as well, wrap it and turn.
K 7, the next st is a double wrapped stitch
Slip this double wrapped stitch onto right hand needle. See
the two wraps on the stitch (picture 10, red arrows)? Push
the left hand needle through those two wraps upwards (picture
10) and slip them onto the right hand needle. This should
look now like a stitch with three loops (picture 11).
Slip the three loops back to left hand needle and knit them together.
Wrap next st and turn.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
|
Step 7
P 8, the next st is a double wrapped stitch. Double wrapped stitches
on the end of purl rows are sometimes hard to see because they
look like a regular purled stitch. Slip the double wrapped stitch
onto the right hand needle. Do you see the two wraps ? Push the
left hand needle through both wraps upwards and slip them onto
right hand needles as you did before at the end of the knit row.
Now slip all three loops back to left hand needle and purl them.
Wrap next stitch and turn.
P 8, unwrap + knit 9th st, wrap next st, turn
K 9, unwrap + knit 10th st, wrap next st, turn
P 10, unwrap + knit 11th st, wrap next st, turn
K 11, unwrap + knit 12 th st, wrap next st, turn
P 12, unwrap + knit 13 th st, wrap next st, turn
K 13, unwrap + knit 14 th st, turn
P 14, unwrap + knit 15 th st, turn
k 15
. You just knitted a toe! See
picture below.
--------------------------------------------------------------
|
Step 8
You should now be at the end of the needle holding the 15 sts
you just knitted the toe with. Pick up the stitches from the
spare yarn and devide onto two needles: 1. needle 8 sts, 2.
needle 7 sts. Your needles will be numbered now as follows:
Needle #1: 7 sts
Needle #2: 15 sts
Needle #3: 8 sts
K8
(needle #3), you are now at the beginning of the round. Knit
stockinette stitch for 15 row. I used a 2 row red / 2 rows blue
pattern for the sample socks, it's just easier to count rows
- <grin>
-------------------------------------------------------------
|
|
Step 9
You are almost half-way through the entire sock, the only hurdle
is the heel. Don't worry, the heel is knitted the exact same way
as the toe. When I first learned this technique I tought a heel
can't be knitted the same way as the toe - no way. I was wrong!
You are now at the seam again,
K 6, wrap one, turn
P 13, wrap one, turn
K 12, wrap one, turn
P 11, wrap one, turn
K 10, wrap one, turn
P 9, wrap one, turn
K 8, wrap one, turn
P 7, wrap one, turn
Now you have 4 wrapped sts on each side and 7 sts on the needle.
K 7, wrap next st, turn
P 7, wrap next st, turn
K 7, unwrap + knit 8th sts, wrap next st, turn
P 8, unwrap + knit 9th st, wrap next st, turn
K 9, unwrap + knit 10th st, wrap next st, turn
P 10, unwrap + knit 11th st, wrap next st, turn
K 11, unwrap + knit 12 th st, wrap next st, turn
P 12, unwrap + knit 13 th st, wrap next st, turn
K 13, unwrap + knit 14 th st, turn
P 14, unwrap + knit 15 th st, turn
You are now at the beginning of needle # 3. In the sample sock
I had one row of blue before starting the heel, to keep with the
pattern, I had to knit one more row in blue.
You are finished with the heel, was already easier than the toe,
right? CORRECTION: If you notice gaps/wholes
when starting to knit in the round, pick up an extra stitch on
each side of the heel and decrease those stitches again in the
next row.
Now all you have to do is keep knitting simple rounds in stockinette
stitch. I added 13 more rounds after the heel and then switched
to the cuff (K2 P2) in plain red (22 rows).
Turn sock inside out and weave in all tails, DONE!
