Meet Donna from northern MN

Hello All.... I've never been asked to write about myself before, so I'm not sure just what you would want to know. My name is DonnaLee and I live in Duluth, MN (which is why I sign myself as being in northern MN). I'm 51 years old, and I've been married for 31 years to George. We are total opposites, and this has made our life together totally interesting --- Over the years, we've learned to compromise a lot. I operate my own in-home business as a MN licensed Childcare provider. I've been 'in the business' since Jan of 1972 -- and still love each and every minute of it. It's a fun thing - to be around little people all day long. (If only I didn't have to keep up with the paperwork each day.) We have 3 grown children; no grandchildren as yet. I think they all like the single life so well, because they grew up in my daycare -- always surrounded by other children and lots of babies.
I do quite a bit of knitting - charity, gifts for daycare, family and friends, baby showers - and enjoy this quite a bit. I've often said that my knitting is my sanity saver -- I can be mad as a hornet one minute, knit for a few rows and start to feel myself relax and calm down. I think I do my best thinking when I'm knitting!
Someone, on the list, asked if I could explain how I could do so much knitting, and I think it has to do with my job. I'm home all the time, first of all. Thus, my knitting is always within reach. There are a lot of times, during my day, when the kids will play very well on their own, and I can sit on the couch near them, just to observe and referree, if needed. All of this is knitting time. Plus, I've learned to knit on Garter Stitch scarves (2 at a time) while reading my many messages from e-mail lists.
My daycare kids get involved in my knitting, by checking out the color scheme, and 'helping' me by making sure that the crawling babies don't get near enough to my yarn to tangle it all up. I've knit a few 'yarn balls' for them to play with - and they love the brightest colors! You should be here, when my older 4 and 5 year olds discuss the merits of different yarn textures and/or color combinations. They sound so knowledgeable, even though most of their conversation is invented in the space of a heartbeat. My husband says that I collect yarn and books ----- I think of these as my retirement fund -- and he agrees with me. Once I retire and have to live on a set income per month, I'll be happy that I've got these 2 collections to keep me occupied!
I've been told that I make a very good friend. This may or may not be true, but I do try hard to be the kind of person that 'I' would like as a friend. I smile alot; I laugh out loud over things that I find enjoyable - in fact, my kids can find me in the store just by listening for my chuckle or laugh! I enjoy most things, and am always ready to try new ones - at least once! I don't think I'll ever try bungee jumping or sky diving, but I do enjoy most 'safe' sports --- volleyball, softball, basketball, badminton, chess, checkers, card games......
For those of you who would like to see a picture of me, this URL is for my husband's 'Trip Pictures' web site. On the front page, if you scroll down, you will see me and my 3 children -- the way we looked about 6 years ago. My hair is completely silver now - and George just hasn't changed the picture on the web page: http://www.computerpro.com/~gstratio Need anymore information? Just want to chat? Drop me a line - I reply to everyone who writes......
Hugs to you all! Donna in northern MN gstratio@computerpro.com
