Universal Playback announced that Knight Rider will be made available on DVD in April 2001.

Action, dazzling stunt-work, bubble perms, technology, you got it: One of the most fondly-remembered TV series of the 1980s, Knight Rider. The series captured the imagination in the early 80s, with KITT the hi-tech, hi-performance motor car and the dashing good looks of David Hasselhoff. Created by the man with the golden touch, Glen A. Larson, who must have spent every day in the 70s and 80s creating a new show, the series ran for an incredible 90 episodes between 1982 and 1986. The book Cult TV by Lewis and Stempel states that "the series was a big hit with kids, heterosexual women and those men who understood that it was not intended to be wholly serious." It also had the coolest theme music of all- written by Stu Phillips and updated by Busta Rhymes, whose rap over the theme, Turn It Up/Fire It Up, was a world-wide smash in 1998. Knight Rider, an hour-long adventure series, starred David Hasselhoff as Michael Knight, a former undercover cop who was critically injured but brought back to health by a mysterious millionaire benefactor. Armed with a new face and identity, Knight would continue his fight against injustice with the aid of an indestructible, futuristic car known as KITT, built with a talking computer. The specially equipped car was programmed to think and anticipate Knight's moves, ride on water, and shoot out flame throwers and smoke bombs with a flick a switch---new features would be added throughout various episodes. The cast also included Edward Mulhare as Devon Miles, the aide to the deceased millionaire, and Patricia McPherson as mechanic Bonnie Barstow.
