BEHIND THE SCENES OF NBC KNIGHT RIDER
THE KARR CONTROVERSY
TRUST DOESN'T RUST/KITT VS KARR
Back when NBC aired Trust Doesn't Rust, KARR or the Knight Automated Roving Robot was exactly like KITT except for that yellow scanner and yellow voice box. When KARR returns in season three, he has a silver stripe and a lot of increased features. What happened? Well for one thing the writers made the somewhat childish KARR grow up. In Trust, KARR was like a child learning and developing connections. In KITT vs KARR, KARR is angry for the years he spent in the sea ocean and has developed a sort of peevish personality that has consumed him. While KARR was confrontational in KITT vs KARR, KARR avoided head on collisions in Trust. So what is the BEHIND THE SCENES of this whole subject? That KARR during his two years had developed something that KITT had never strived for. KARR was well aware of Wilton Knight's failure to make him the car of choice and that haunted KARR for all the time he spent near the ocean. KARR became more individualistic, something that KITT was on the verge of obtaining. KITT had Micheal to give voice commands, but KARR only had the original programming he was built with. As KITT incorporated more knowledge, so did KARR in the short brief time that KARR was allowed to exist. Imagine if Wilton Knight had Michael driving KARR. That would have been an interesting Knight Rider. So is KARR dead? Well, his box is still sitting at the site collecting dust. Just like Goliath is in an ocean with Garthe and Adrianne collecting water.
