"A HISTORY OF THE DAVIESS-McLEAN BAPTIST ASSOCIATION IN KENTUCKY, 1844-1943" by Wendell H. Rone. Probably published in 1944 by Messenger Job Printing Co., Inc., Owensboro, Kentucky. (Note- Bryant Young Cundiff is the husband of Priscilla McCormick)
BRYANT YOUNG CUNDIFF, The subject of this sketch was born in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky, on January 27, 1822, and was the son of Isaac and Fannie Cundiff, both native of Prince William County, Virginia. His parents came to Muhlenberg County about the year 1818 and lived there until 1847 when they moved to Daviess County with their son, Thomas F. Cundiff. Mrs. Cundiff died in 1853 and Mr Cundiff in 1855. They reared eight sons and three daughters.
Our subject received a fair education and at the age of twenty-one commenced teaching school. He followed this profession for four years and then worked in the store of Mr. D. A. McCormick near Red Hill. In March, 2854, he married Miss Priscilla McCormick. To this union was born nine children.
Brother Cundiff studied for the Methodist ministry but his studies of the Scriptures led him to become a Baptist. He therefore united with the Green Briar Church in the year 1860 and was soon licensed to preach
His ordination took place in the month of October 1867. Brother Cundiff held his membership with the Green Briar Church for the twenty-six years after his ordination. He then moved to Red Hill Church, becoming a constituent member there. He remained a member of the Red Hill Church until his death on October 1, 1909, and is buried in the cemetary across the road from the Church. He lived on the adjoining farm to Bro. D. E. Yeiser from 1857 to his death. These two brethren were inseparable companions and workers in the cause of Christ.
The work of Brother Cundiff was in the main evangelistic. Many of his protracted meetings were very successful, and his pastorates were all in this Association. They were as follows: Mt. Carmel, Bells Run, Stanley, Mt. Liberty, Bethel, and Red Hill. He was called as pastor at Red Hill soon after the constitution of the Church. Even though his gifts were limited he did a good work in all his pastorates.
