King Diamond's
Band Members

King Diamond (MF1981-Present KD 1985-Present)

Born as Kim Bendix Petersen, King of course, is one of the founders of Mercyful Fate, and the leader of King Diamond. He started in a band called Brainstorm, but left them in 1978 to join Black Rose. Some sources claim Black Rose had Hank, Mike (and possibly Timi as well), and some say that King left Black Rose to join the others to form Danger Zone, which would later become Brats, later MF. Brats recorded one demo, which contained songs that would later become MF songs. In 1985, MF broke up and King moved on to create his own band, King Diamond, along with Mikkey Dee, Andy LaRoque, and 2 members from MF, Timi, and Mike.

Guitarist Michael Denner ans bassist Timi Hansen, mainstays from the Mercyful Fate days, both left the King Diamond band during the making og "them" (in a now famous story, Hansen's wife threatened to leave, and take their child with her, if Hansen didn't quit the life of a rock musician! He obliged her, only to see them depart after six months later!). They were replaced by Pete Black and Hal Patino who are following bellow.

Sharlee D'Angelo (MF 1994-Present KD 1993)

The Bassist who replaced Timi Grabber after the In The Shadows tour, appears on all the following MF releases. He was in King Diamond at a time, but never appeared on any album. The original lineup for Spider's Lullabye was supposed to be King, Andy, Sharlee, Mike Wead, and Snowy. The latter 3 didn't make it. He is also in a band called Illwill along w/ Snowy and Andy.

Mikkey Dee (KD 1985-1989)

Mikkey played in a band called Geisha prior to joining up with King Diamond in 1985. He appeared on the first 3 records and then quit the band. His replacement, Chris hitemier didn't live up to King's standards and Mikkey was hired to do the Conspiracy album. This was his last album with the band (unfortunately) and then went on to play with Don Dokken's solo band from 1989 until 1991. During that time, he recorded one album:

After that, he moved on to Motorhead in 1991. This is where he is now, and has released the following albums:

Pete Blakk (KD 1987-1990)

He replaced Mike Moon and appeared on the Them, Conspiracy, and The Eye records. He was kicked out of the band b/c of lack of enthusiasm as well as possibly a drug problem. He started a new band called Totem Pole (i believe) (or just Totem) along w/ Hal Patino, who shared the same treatment from the King Diamond band. This band released at least one demo, but it seems unlikely that they've ever released an album.

Mike Denner (MF 1981-1996 KD 1985-1987)

The original, quiet guitarist of Mercyful Fate. He played with Hank prior to Mercyful Fate. He stayed with King until the Abigail album. After that, he joined up with Hank Shermann again to form a band called Zoser Mez. When MF reunited he played with them until 1996, when he left the band for a short time to celebrate his second son's birth. Mike Wead replaced him for that short time. I believe he played a few shows after that, but has since quit the band! Mike Wead has replaced him full time now.

Glen Drover (KD1998-Present)

The replacement for Herb Simonsen, Glen took over for the US KD tour in 1998. He took place in the "House of God" album in 2000...

John Hebert

The newest drummer for King Diamond, as it seems Darrin Anthony has left the band due to personal reasons. He played drums in "the graveyard" and "voodoo" albums leaving promises for a good carrer with King Diamond.

Timi "Grabber" Hansen

On certain releases, Timi gave himself the last name "Grabber" while on others it was Hansen. Timi was one of the original band members of Mercyful Fate and went on to record the first two King Diamond albums. He left after the Abigail record to spend time with his newborn child. When Mercyful Fate reunited, he joined up with King, Hank and Mike for the first album, but left once again (after the In the Shadows tour) to spend time with his family, (as I have said above for family problems).

Floyd Konstantin

In 1985, King decided to recruit 2 members for his new band. It is possible that he played Mikkey Dee in a band called Geisha, but perhaps not. Floyd was fired on the first day of recording, as he didn't live up to King's standards.

Bob Lance

During the Time tour, Snowy left the band and was replaced by someone called Bob Lance. At the time, many of us heard that Bob was in the band for only a short time, and was replaced by Bjarne Holm. It turns out that Bob Lance is Bjarne Holm. He played under that name with Hank Shermann in his band Fate.

Andy LaRocque played w/ EF Band prior to joining King Diamond in 1985. EF Band released 3 albums:

Andy only appeared on the last album and on this album, Andy's name was listed as Anders Allhage so perhaps that is his real name! He is the only member (other than King!) to have played on every King Diamond record. He played on Death's Individual Thought Patterns album, does a guest solo on At The Gates' song Cold (off of Slaughter of the Soul, a great album, and solo!) and just finished producing the album "At the Sight of the Apocalypse" by the band Midvinter.

Andy is now also in a band called Illwill which features him, Snowy Shaw, Sharlee D'Angelo and Jonas Dahlsrom. No album has been recorded yet though.

Mike Moon
Originally played in a band called Madison, a very popular band in japan. He was Mike Denner's replacement during the Abigail tour. He appears on the Abigail Live release, but never made it onto a studio album. Shortly after that tour, he was replaced by Pete Blakk.

Hal Patino

Hal joined the band after Timi left. He appeared on the same albums as Pete Blakk (Them, Conspiracy and The Eye), and was kicked out of the band for the same reasons as Pete (lack of enthusiasm and possibly a drug problem). Those two started up a new band called either Totem or Totem Pole and released at least one demo, but it seems unlikely that they ever released an album.

Snowy Shaw

appears on "The Eye" but in actuality, he does not play drums. All (or almost all) of the drums on that album were done by a drum machine, not by Snowy. He was very upset w/ this. He did not appear on the "In the Shadows" album either, even though his picture was included, as that was recorded by Morton Nielson, a studio musician. He didn't appear on an album until "The Bell Witch" live ep, and the "Time" album. He left to work on the Memento Mori project which features Messiah Marcolin of Candlemass, and Mike Wead. He was in Memento Mori for a short time and only appeared on the Life, Death and other Morbid Tales album. He now plays with a band called Illwill along w/ Andy LaRoque and Sharlee D'Angelo. I don't think any album has been released yet though.

Herb Simonsen(1996 - Present)
A man with talent came to King Diamond to play the guitars in "the graveyard" album and he stayed until today. Of course he took part in the "voodoo" album.

Chris Whitemier
Chris replaced Mikkey Dee when he left after the Them album. While Chris was a good drummer, he wasn't very creative and was fired. Mikkey Dee rejoined just to perform the Conspiracy album.

"Old Nick"
The drummer for Mike Denner's 3 piece band. This band included Mike, Old Nick and perhaps Timi. This band asked King and Hank to perform on their first demo. They did and two known tracks are M.D.A. (Mission Destroy Aliens) and Leave My Soul Alone, both of which appear on the Return of the Vampire album.

David Harbour

He replaced Chris Estes in the early 1999 when Chris for personal reasons have left the band... In 2000 he played the bass on the "House of God" album.

Demo Material

King and possibly Timi joined the band Brats, which was Hank and Mike's project in the late 1970's. This band released one demo, with the following tracks:

  1. Some Day
  2. Death Kiss
  3. Combat Zone
  4. Love Criminals

Some Day is a very early version of Desecration Of Souls

Death Kiss is an early version of A Dangerous Meeting

Love Criminals is an early version of Into The Coven

Combat Zone is an early version of ...?

A short time later, after toying w/ the band name Danger Zone, the band called themselves Mercyful Fate and recorded 2 demos prior to releasing the Nuns Have No Fun ep. Neither of these demos had titles. The first had the following tracklisting:

  1. Walking Back To Hell
  2. Running Free
  3. Black Masses
  4. Hard Rocker
  5. Love Criminals

Walking Back To Hell is another early version of A Dangerous Meeting, w/ slight differences from the Death Kiss version.

Running Free is another title for Leave My Soul Alone which was released on the Return of the Vampire album.

Black Masses is of course, the track that is found on the b-side of the Black Funeral single (and The Beginning album). This is probably very similar to the original version.

Hard Rocker

Love Criminals was another recording of Into The Coven.

  1. Curse Of The Pharaohs
  2. Return Of The Vampire
  3. A Corpse Without Soul
  4. Burning The Cross

Curse of the Pharaohs later appeared on Melissa and A Corpse Without Soul appeared on their first ep. Both of these tracks are probably the versions found on the Return of the Vampire album.

Return of the Vampire and Burning the Cross both appear on the Return of the Vampire album. The former was re-recorded in 1993 for the In The Shadows album, in which Lars Ulrich (of Metallica) played drums.

One other noteworthy song is Shadow Night, which appeared on a very old bootleg. It is an early version of Nightmare, but with plenty of differences. An excellent track! So, you are not now a lost soul, you have learned a lot about your favourite band, King Diamond, and you can learn a lot more when I will update this Tribute Web Page...
