This
prototype is the only one of its kind. But there is nothing to stop us
dreaming of a day when anybody will be able to order a made-to-measure
car...
Taking
an idea from Citroën's marketing department, coachwork specialist
Sbarro came up with a Berlingo prototype designed specifically for media-related
activities: the Grand Reporter. Naturally, the new vehicle is equipped
with all the tools needed for electronic newsgathering: a laptop computer
configured for TV network and Internet access, a laser printer, a GSM cellphone
and a satellite telephone. But the trailblazing feature is the jack-mounted
rear seat, which can be raised as a covered platform to a height of 4 feet
above the vehicle. From that vantage-point, still protected by the roof,
our reporter has a bird's eye view of what's going on around him. The Grand
Reporter is ideal for filming sporting events, parades, safaris - in fact,
just about anything that's making news. The vehicle was given a customised
livery and interior decoration as well as a host of fixtures for storing
equipment. Presented at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1997, the Grand
