: You seem to know, if this is Kelly Harris, enough about LttP. how do you beat Palace 2?

Either my reputation preceeds me, or you're refering to the big ol' hunking message I left explaining how to get through level 1.

As I've already said- it's been a while since I've last played Zelda3, even on emulator. And level 2 is the one level I never really paid much attention to... but hey! I'll give it my best shot.

I assume you've already figured out how to get inside level 2, so I'll start when you first step inside.

Head left, as the right takes you to a telepathy tile which has Sahasrala's ever useful message that you'll need to change the water level in the palace (but we already know that!). There'll be water bugs, a trap (squares with spikes- I've only seen them actually named in Zelda1) and water globs that fly at 45 degree angles. There's also a treasure box with a key. Enter the stairs at the top.

The stairs will take you down a level- to a room with water bugs, water globs, and a box that spits out fireballs. There are also skull pots- one will have a key under it. The skull pots at the bottom will have hearts under them. The door to the next room will be in the lower left recess.

My memory fails me here on which room is next. But it really should be straight forward anyway. At some point, you'll reach a fairly large room, the level's treasure (hookshot) should be smack in the middle of the room, but since you don't have the big key, ignore it for now. There's a door along the bottom wall- but IMHO there's nothing of value in there, so you can just ignore it. There is a door to the north- but you need the hookshot to get to it. There are two doors to the left- take the lower left door.

There'll be a blue/orange crystal switch. Hit the switch- you'll probably need to continue pass the switch and take the northern door to the next room for the skull pot. Again, my memory is a bit fuzzy- but I know there are at least two skull pots sitting under unactivated waterspouts- and one of them has a key... I don't remember if it's this one or the next one.

If it is indeed the key... or if it's just a lousy heart... go back to the large room with the level's treasure, and take the upper left door this time. There'll be at least one trap moving back and forth. There's a switch you need to push, if you didn't strike the crystal switch, the tiles will be in your way. Once you push the switch, the waterspout will activate and raise the water level. Go back to the room with the level's treasure and take the lower left door again.

I don't remember if you need to hit the switch again. I seem to remember doing so, though... Go past the switch and jump into the water. You will be able to reach the left ledge now and get to the door. Again, which room is the next room doesn't come to mind. But in any event, continue left. Somewhere along the line, you'll come across a second ledge that you'll only be able to reach by raising the water (the appropriate switch will be on the left side of the water spout instead of the right).

Again- continue left. Eventually you'll get to stairs leading up one level (the room below and previous to it is somewhat long and has unreachable ledges). This room will be almost identical in shape to the previous, except that instead of ledges, it will have holes. Head for the upper right hole and fall down it. You'll land on the upper right ledge of the room below. Take the door to the right. It will lead to the big key.

Needless to say, make a beeline back to the fairly large room with the level's treasure. Open it and get the hookshot. Use the hookshot to pull yourself over to the door at the top. The next room with be fairly narrow, and will have two or three doors in it's northern walls- one to the left, and one or two to the right. There's a switch on the left that'll you'll need to depress (I think you'll need to leave a statue on it)- and there's a chest to the right. If there's only two doors, the one you'll need to take is on the right. If there are three doors, the one you'll need to take is the left door on the right side (ie, the middle door). It'll take you into a little room that's easily passable, simply go through it and take the stairs down.

You'll end up in a room with a water control switch, and a chest. If you had taken the wrong door, you would have ended up on the otherside of the switch, and wouldn't be able to flip the switch. Flipping it will drain the water from the pit in the room. Taking the now available door will lead to a narrow corridor that'll take you either up or down. Going down will get you a chest- but there's nothing real important in it (unless you LOVE rupees). Going up will lead you into a room full of waterspouts, some blocks (one of them is pushable, but you only get a chest full of bombs for the effort) and a few assorted enemies. The door to the next room is hidden by the water coming from the second spout from the right- simply walk right into it.

Memory failure again. But I think the next room is a littlebit "T" shaped, and has those stupid floor tiles indicating the next room is the boss-room... even though in this case, it isn't (I always thought that was funny). The next room should actually be a short little room, easily passable. The room beyond that (south) is one big water pit. There'll be water bugs in it. There's an entrance to a room to the right of the door you enter. You'll need to jump into the water- I don't remember why I always go in there, or what's in there that's worth getting. But whatever it is, once you get it- go back into the water pit and swim left. Take the leftmost door, it'll leed to yet another room-in-between-rooms... ie a room with no purpose other than just being there- easily passable, why bother talking about it.

The room after that is the boss room. It's a big eye surrounded by bats- IMHO it's actually easier to beat than the Helmasaur King. To beat it- first you need to get rid of the bats- hook them with your hookshot, then whack them with your sword. Once they're all gone, the eye will jump into the air and out of the screen. It comes back down and lands wherever you were when it vanished from the screen- so moving about is advisable if you don't want to get hit. I prefer moving to either the left or right, as it's easier for me to judge distances that way (btw- I do the same with Agahnim- as I cannot easily judge distances, it helps me a littlebit). When it lands, strike it and it will jump back into the air. If you don't strike it immediatly, it will bounce around the room at 45 degree angles. It's easy to avoid, but gets annoying after a while.

May the way of the hero lead to the Triforce.

(Doesn't that sound a lot like: May the force be with you?)
