: : : The doctor has a collection of thoughts on why Hyrule is so different from game to game. Remember something in history class about a place on Earth once known as Pangea? And keep in mind that new land is generated everytime an underwater volcano erupts. And what about earthquakes? They change the shape of land, too. And villages and cities come and go with the passage of time. Plus there's "westward expansion" as the populations grow.

Death Mountain is a volcano in Toot, as well, so that could have had some effect on the land's shape, too.

: I've noticed that A Link to the Past's map is similar to Ocarina of Times if you turn it ninety degrees clockwise. Death Mountain, Zora's River, Kakakiro Village and Lake Hylia are all in about the right spots.

All the maps can have some similarities if turned, I think. Zelda's map has Death Mountain at the top, with Zora's River flowing down from the right edge of the mountain. Lake Hylia is a bit harder to define, but it may be there. Of course, all this seems to be either a very small part of the Zelda 2 map, or turned upside down on that map.

: Everything EXCEPT Gerudo Valley,

It could be that little winding path that leads into LttP's desert, perhaps. Of course, then Zora's River wouldn't be going through it...

: Kokiri Forest (Both surprisingly absent from ALTTP. Can you say "Deforestation"?) and the Lost Woods seem to match up on the map screen.

The Lost Woods is the great mystery of Hyrule landforms... it's always somewhere different. The Lost Woods probably expands and contracts it's boundries over time, as more people need lumber to build houses and more trees grow. The Kokiri Forest might have either died out without the Great Deku Tree or may have been simple absorbed by the Lost Woods. It's also possible that an erupt on Death Mountain might have wiped it out, or maybe those lumberjacks in LttP did ther job too well. ;)

: (Do you suppose that the Temple of Time was destroyed after TOOT and the Master Sword moved to the "new" Lost Woods?")

Seems highly likely to me. As long as the Temple of Time was there, there was a risk that someone could use it to open a gate to the Dark World and let Ganon loose. Nobody would want that, so destroying the Temple makes sense. (Very convenient how the Dark World gates at Hyrule Castle in LttP lead to the Pyramid of the Dark World, also. The Pyramid is right in the center of the Dark World, where the Temple of Light is said to be in Toot.)

I think that all the Temples were probably destroyed at some point, with the exception of the Water and Shadow Temples, perhaps. The part of the Lost Woods that the Master Sword is kept in during LttP seems as peaceful as the grove at the foot of the Forest Temple, but there's no Temple there (the pedestal the Sword is in also is shaped very much like the warp thingie with Saria's symbol on it). I imagine that if the Fire Temple had remained in existance, Ganon would have attempted to revive Volvagia after he moved into Death Mountain in later years (but then again, maybe he did; Barba of AoL seems very similar). The Desert Colossus is definitely not present in any of the other games, so the Spirit Temple would seem to be gone (makes sense, as it was Ganon's hideout prior to Toot). The Water Temple's impossible to access in LttP even if it does still exist, so there's no way to know what's up there. The Shadow Temple could have simply been hid by the Shiekah (i.e., Impa), who seem to be good at that sort of thing.

Whew, that was a lot of typing.
