Despite several people out this year we have a field of 15 teams in
the 2003 Tournament (2nd Highest). It appears that since Brian &
Scott took top honors last year, many of the children teams have made
the switch to the Big Show and opted out of the Children’s Tournament
which has just two teams. We welcome four brand new teams and wish everyone
best of luck!
Seed Team Tournaments Played Record
1 Brian-Scott 5 * 14-9
Defending champs will have their hands full trying to repeat. Youngest
team to ever win a Tournament. Brian’s baseball career may cut
short this team’s opportunities in the near future. Now that they
have a target on their backs are they a one time wonder or the real
deal?
2 Joyce-Debbie 4 ** 19-5
Have lost just five games in four Tournaments and have won two championships.
Have the all time best winning percentage (.792). Joyce is currently
ranked #1 all time in games played (70) and wins (45) as an individual
player. They are the complete package complementing each other. We expect
to see them in the finals and eating out afterwards somewhere with a
gift certificate.
3 Cindy-Kathy 13 * 31-24
In recent years they have been one of the more consistent teams with
two consecutive third place finishes and winner of the 1999 Tournament.
They were knocked out last year by their children and are hopeful the
counseling has paid off and are ready to play. Will move into third
place in all time games played but rank 9th with only a .592 winning
percentage (31-24).
4 Shelly-Beth 14 * 42-26
Had their worst Tournament since 1997 finishing 1-2 losing to #10 seed
Ben & Kyle. Winner of the 1996 Tournament seems like ancient history
now. Hold team records for games played (68) and may pass Sally &
Phyllis’ wins (44) this year. With Carlton & Rosemary absent
they are now the only team to play together in every Tournament.
5 Richard-Bob 13 *** 38-22
Is the top active team with three championships with the last coming
in 1994. Lost championship in 1998 and have never been the same since.
In fact they have lost to a #9 seed or higher in each of the last four
Tournaments. Still are formidable opponents but the drive doesn’t
seem to be there like it once was. Never seeded below #4 until last
two seasons. Is the torch being passed to Brian & Scott as the most
intimidating opponents?
6 Kristy-Tiffany 12 25-22
Have played the most games (47) without a championship to their name.
Been close on occasion but always seem to fall short. Sixth seem to
be a good spot for them. Of the 25 games they have won their opponents
record is just 270-265 with an average seed of just over 9.
7 Ben-Kyle 3 5-6
Appear to be right on schedule starting their 4th Tournament. Their
5 wins have come from teams that have a winning record (59-56). They
knocked off Shelly & Beth to finish in fourth place last year. They
are primed and ready to make a run.
8 Luke-Chad 7 3-14
Hard to believe this team is playing in their eighth Tournament. Known
to show up with Reece’s Pieces and 7 Up on game days hasn’t
really intimidated anyone. If they can stay alive early rumor has it
that Sally will come out of retirement and replace Luke when he leaves.
Chad may want to strongly consider Sally (44-13) on a permanent basis
if there is any chance she will come out of retirement.
9 Ashley & Christy 1 1-2
Looking for this team to make a run this year. Despite just one Tournament
under their belt Ashley has 27 games under her belt in eight prior Tournaments.
Knocked off Richard & Bob for their only win.
10 Kent-Sara 3 3-6
Made history in 2001 knocking off #2 Richard & Bob as the #15 seed.
This team continues to make progress
11 Andy-Hap 3 4-6
Have three prior Tournaments under their belt but not in consecutive
years (95, 97, and 99). Between them they have had over 10 different
partners and have a combined 13-30 record. Their four wins are against
teams that have compiled a 6-18 record (.250) with an average seed of
12. Because they have over 40 games experience, we think this team could
be a sleeper ready for a breakout Tournament.
12 William & Chris New Team 0-0
The 2002 Children’s Champs have made the move into the Big Show.
Like the other lower seeded teams we have a rookie (Chris) teaming up
with novice (William 0-2) with a year’s experience. They will
find out early that there is a big jump from the Children’s Tournament
to the Big Show.
13 Meiling & Juliana New Team 0-0
This is a new team that we are excited about because of long term potential.
Meiling has five games under her belt on two different teams (1991 &
1998) but it has been some time since she has played
14 Katie & Jenna New Team 0-0
Another new team that has a tremendous upside. This team could be the
next Shelly-Beth or Cindy-Kathy of the future. Jenna has one Tournament
under her belt (0-2) but both have played in past Children’s Tournaments.
Time to move up into the Big Time.
15 Erin & Will New Team 0-0
This is also a new team in this year’s Tournament. Erin just has
two games with a victory in 1998. Will has no idea what he is getting
into. Not expecting much here but you have to start somewhere.
