Can’t Win The Big One Anymore?

Sally & Phyllis have made the Championship game of every Rook tournament to date. They have their name on the trophy twice. They once won eight consecutive matches. Sound impressive? You bet. However in the last three Tournaments Sally & Phyllis have been one win away only to lose the championship with back to back losses. Is that a good problem to have? Are they chokers? Are you really out in three strikes? Or can’t they win the big one anymore?

Director Right On Target

Tournament Director Ken Burton is correct 62.9% of the time. That a little better than five of every eight games. In six tournaments Burton has had to seed nearly 30 teams in 132 officially sanctioned games. “It’s a tough but challenging job, considering that the Tournament is annual and your seeding people from as far away as Texas,” Burton said.

Slowly But Surely They Are Earning Respect

In early Tournaments they were thought to be contenders and they weren’t No one has ever taken them seriously. In 1990 they admitted to cheating back in their childhood days during a tournament game and have been typecast ever since. In 1993 they were seeded 10th in a 11 team tournament. There were even rumors of a split. However since the 93 Tournament Kathy & Cindy have slowly but surely earned some respect. That year they played their best tournament and last year did even better by finishing a strong third place. What will this mean in 95? It’s hard to say but things are looking up!

It Finally HAPpened!

After six tournaments, four partners, and nine consecutive losses, Hap Core finally got his first Tournament Rook win. “I am really glad to get that monkey off my back,” Core said after his son and partner Andy laid down the Rook card to clinch the victory over Randall and Tyler. The father-son duo finished with an impressive 2-2 record. A recap of Hap’s Rook career:

Fab Four Took A Beating Last Year

The upper class of the Rook Tournament for the first time in history took a severe beating in last years tournament mainly by other teams. Overall in fifteen games they only won seven and against other opponents had a losing record (6-7 .462) compared to (42-4 .913) in the six previous. Maybe we are beginning to see parity or are the younger teams just getting better?
