A Children's
Tournament was started in 1991 during the third Rook Tournament
to allow the children to play against each other to develop their
Rook skills. Games are determined at 300 points. No entry
fee is required and it is available to children under 18..
Emphasis is placed on learning rather than winning.
The Children's
Tournament generally starts the day before the Rook Tournament
to jump start the "big" tournament. Those playing
in the Children's Tournament can also play in the Rook Tournament.
In 1998 the
Children's Tournament was renamed the Emma Whisenant Memorial
Children's Tournament.
