Second Thoughts

Life is too short for bitter words
That cause the heart much pain,
For though perhaps in haste they're said,
The sting may still remain

Tis better still to keep the peace
Though strong, we may be tried
For one small word that's said in haste
May wound the deepest pride

Too soon, we say the things we know
that in our hearts are wrong:
And yet so oft a second thought
Will help the world along.

Sylvia Crossley

The Value of a Smile

A smile costs nothing
but gives much.
It enriches those who receive,
without making poorer those who give.
It takes but a moment, but the
memory of it sometimes lasts forever.
None is so rich or mighty,
that he can get along without it,
And none is so poor
that he can be made rich by it.

I Live Alone

I live alone, dear Lord
Stay by my side
In all my daily needs
Be Thou my guide
Grant me good health
For that indeed,I pray
To carry on my work
From day to day
Keep pure my mind,
My thoughts, my every deed,
Let me be kind, unselfish
In my neighbors need.
Spare me from fire, from flood
Malicious tongues.
From thieves, from fear,
And evil ones
If sickness or an accident be fall,
Then humbly,Lord I pray
hear thou my call.

What I Need

I need a strength
To keep me true
And straight in whatever I do.

I need a power
To keep me pure
When passion,
tries it's deadly lure;

I need a love to keep my sweet
When hardness and mistrust,

I need an arm
to be my stay
When dark with trouble
grows by day;

And nothing on earth
Can these afford
But all is found,
In Christ my Lord.
