O'Brien, illustrated by</B> <B>Ben Stahl</B></div> <div> This book is a <U>rare find</U>, and a real treat for collectors of sled dog memorabilia. John O'Brien, better known as Jack O'Brien, was a surveyor with Admiral Byrd's first Antarctic Expedition, and is the author of the popular <I>Silver Chief</I> series and other books about arctic dogs. <I>Byrd's Dogs</I> is a child's narrative of the dogs on Byrd's first South Pole expedition <U>in picture strip</U>, with three wonderful illustrations on <U>each page</U> (see below for a photo of one page...note the excellent Malamute type of the lead dog in the first illustration!).  Endpapers also are decorated with charming illustrations. This book is chock full of historical anecdotes, and the illustrations are umatched by any other book I've seen. There is some water damage to the cover, but the pictures inside are unmarred and the book is in excellent condition otherwise. Copyright date 1931.
