Why the Alaskan Malamute Sanctuary?
Those of us who cared about all Malamutes were among the first purebred dog fanciers to start a formalized national rescue effort. We again are among the first to strive for permanent housing for those dogs who are too old, handicapped, ill or traumatized to find another home. We are part of a growing “no kill” movement in this country. The Sanctuary will serve as yet another example of the determination of Malamute fanciers to demonstrate that we will ALWAYS take responsibility for our breed. This tangible example of our commitment to our dogs also is an excellent way to dissuade those seeking any breed specific legislation against the Malamute.
While the Alaskan Malamute Sanctuary is an ambitious project, the members of the Sanctuary boards are committed to making a sound and strong beginning by forming a foundation plan that can be built and expanded upon as time and funds allow. We have assembled an experienced group of people to establish the base plan for the Sanctuary and its future. We are confident that there are many others in the breed who will follow in our footsteps to help us bring this plan to fruition.
