How is the Alaskan Malamute Sanctuary funded?
We recognize that the Sanctuary is an enormous undertaking that will require a significant amount of time to bring to fruition. It also will take a great deal of funding to accomplish correctly.
We recently received our 501(c)3 determination letter from the IRS. This letter recognizes us as a public charity as of March 3, 2000. This enables contributors to deduct donations from their federal income taxes to the extent allowable by law. Receipts for donations will be issued and should be kept with your tax records. All monies contributed directly benefit the Malamutes. Please consult your tax professional for complete details on donating to public charities. We are now accepting cash donations, as well as donations of items that may be sold for the benefit of the Sanctuary. Some may choose to donate through a will or trust. This is more than generous, and we would appreciate knowing when a donor has made such arrangements so that we can recognize that donor appropriately. Donations will be acknowledged in a news communication and on this Web site.
We have a number of fundraising projects planned. One extremely popular fundraiser with which many fanciers may be familiar is the Buy a Brick campaign. By ordering a brick for the entry of the Sanctuary personalized with your name, your kennel name or the name of a special dog, you can memorialize a significant person or dog in your life while supporting the building of the Sanctuary facility.
Once our facility is a little closer to becoming a reality, we will offer the opportunity to buy a kennel run that will always be identified with your kennel name, with the option to finance the kennel for one year or more. This fundraiser has been popular in other no-kill shelters and is an excellent way to extend the charitable activity of your kennel. Several other ideas also have been proposed, such as buying a panel on the wall to memorialize a special dog or advertise your kennel activity or upcoming events, including specialties, races or weight pulls.
All donations should be sent to:
