What is the Alaskan Malamute Sanctuary?
An entirely new organization, the Alaskan Malamute Sanctuary is a national effort that is separate from AMCA and from rescue. It is incorporated in New Mexico. The Sanctuary will provide a facility to owners, breeders and rescue for dogs who are too old, traumatized or physically handicapped to find a new home. One of the primary goals of the Sanctuary is to ensure that these dogs shall never be alone, hungry, or without shelter or medical care.
Other important goals include:
 Establishing a well managed sponsor program to assist old and handicapped dogs being held in foster care;
 Providing a permanent repository for historical material, libraries, and collections of artwork pertaining to the malamute and its original arctic environment;
 Public education programs about the breed, stressing proper care, training and the importance of a lifetime commitment;
 Education programs for children about dog care; and
 Engaging good speakers for malamute club specialty shows on the care of the aged and traumatized malamute, and handling dogs with behavioral problems.
