How to Make Popups
Popups are colorful messages that can be played to a certain nick or to the channel as a whole. They are accessed by right clicking on the Main Channel or on a name in the NickNames list and selecting what you want to play from a box that pops up. (hence the name..lol).

If you click on Tools | Popups (or on your popups icon), you'll see 4 tabs...ServerWindow, Channel(Names List), Channel (Main Pane), and Private Msg/DCC Chat. The two Channel tabs are where the bulk of your popups will go, although you may want to put some in the Private Msg/DCC Chat pane as well so you'll have access to some pops when you are in private chats.

So how do you get them in there? One of the advantages to using Pirch is that you can copy and paste popups right off the channel without losing any of the color codes. Here's how:

Popups Tips and Tricks

Making Your Own Popups

The best way to learn about how to make your own popups is to look at the popups you have and see how they are done, and to experiment on your own. Try changing the color codes, making a single line popup into a multi-line, etc. Here's a rundown of the codes:

The various symbols you can use with the Ctrol-S symbol code can be found in your windows Character Map under Symbol font.

Multi-Line Popups

These take a little more editing. The pop needs to be all on one line with each line separated with a | (Shift-\) symbol. Make sure there is a space before and after the |. Here's an example of a three line hug...
MultiLineHug:8,2((((( $1 ))))) | 8,2((((( $1 ))))) | 8,2((((( $1 )))))
 Nesting
Nesting is another name for organizing your popups. This gives you more room in your popups windows, and makes it easier to find what you want. Here's an example:
Hellos
.Names
..Hello1:/me says Hi to $1!
..Hello2:/me says howdy to $1!
.Channel:
..HiChan:/me says Hi to everyone in # ! (# will put in the channel name)
For more examples of nesting, look at the popup files for download on this page. Mail me

The more elaborate, big pictures you'll see in chat rooms are usually either Aliases or Text Files.
