Spanish Language Community at The University of Georgia
Academics

This page outlines the academic requirements and standards of excellence that we aspire to maintain.

Residents of the language communities undergo prerequisite coursework and an application/interview process before being admitted to the program. Though our students possess varying levels of language ability, all have been previously exposed to the basic concepts of Spanish.

Areas of Concentration:

Not all of our residents are Spanish majors. We are proud to have a distinguished and ecclectic group of students that enrich the program on an individual basis. Their language interests, however, mainly consist of Peninsular and Latin American literatue, Spanish linguistics, Spanish and Business, Spanish and Education, etc.

Conversation Course

Each resident is required to register for SPAN 2030-Practical Spanish Conversation, a one-hour credit course that is designed to engage the students in everyday conversations utilizing vocabulary that is not frequently encountered in traditional language classrooms. Topics of discussion are quite varied and reflect student interests.
Recent themes have included music, food, and cinema.

Our Mission

We are completely dedicated to faccilitating the process of language acquisition of our students. Our program is an open and friendly setting that allows students to have an active part in this process contributing ideas and input, therefore helping themselves and others at the same time.

In this area, I might include a link to the "Bulletin Board" page, which includes news and announcements about members.
